Windows Media Player 11 Hits The Street
|
Microsoft has released the final version of Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP, which brings a new user interface, greater online store integration, and improved navigation for larger music libraries. Microsoft is hoping that releasing Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Media Player 11 to current Windows XP users will encourage those users to get familiar with the programs, which will be even more robust in Windows Vista, due for consumer release in January 2007. The new player can be downloaded here. Media Player 11 is also integrated with MTV Network's URGE music service, giving consumers access to the URGE catalog of more than 110,000 artists and 2 million songs.
More than 200 portable and home networking devices worldwide will work with Windows Media Player 11, while hundreds of online music and video services and radio stations worldwide are designed to work with the new player. Microsoft is touting the following as key features of Windows Media Player 11: A visually driven experience using thumbnail and album art, with customization capabilities for a more personalized interaction. Improved device experience with new shuffle sync and reverse sync options, device exploration using the library view, and help icons that ensure syncing and burning of rights-managed content. Simplified navigation capabilities, enhanced shortcut options, and dedicated category views for all media types, including music, photos and video. Better access to content with deep integration of services. Audio fingerprinting capabilities that recognize and import track information for unidentified or misnamed audio files. New formats for ripping and music playback, including Windows Media Audio Professional and WAV Lossless. |

...and what about DRM and backing up licenses? It's my understanding that WMP 11 doesn't allow users to backup licenses for wma files. What if your PC crashes? Are you just supposed to eat the loss, or does Microsoft assume that you've burnt them to a CD?

IE7 & Media 11 and cannot burn to CD. Errors vary from cannot play files, to cannot find burner plus try another disc.
I can play the files, the two burners ARE there and I have tried 4 makes of CD.
Is this unusual or am I being paranoid.

IE7 closes as soon as i open it, and i've had WMP11 for a while, and always get a "cannot find burner" message. iTunes works fine though.

Microsoft forced an upgrade to windows media player 10 from 9, which I used to burn cd's. It immediately would not recognize my cd burner for burning (it plays the songs) although all other burning programs would..and attempts to resolve this throught microsoft and Gateway have been fruitless. The problem is my napster songs are in wma and only Windows media player will burn them. I upgraded to windows media player 11... same problem. I'm going to have to eat about $30.00 worth of songs... microsoft continues to make friends.

Cannot seem to burn cds with media player 11 it just wont recognize either the disks or the burners themselves. So i tried going back to wmp 10 and it wont let you. Microsoft yet again flexing their ineptitude at writing decent software and hardware as well (xbox 360).

I am in the same 'boat' as Jay. Surely Microsoft has someone 'onboard' who can fix these problems.

Yet another UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER!!!
Microsoft is proving again and again that they can't do it right!!!
I have more than 200 Cds riped with WMP10... all or most with the licence protection which I set as default... big mistake I now realise.
Now now of those files can be played... it's a royal pain in the neck (to be polite).
Hopefully someone has a solution for this.
Is there anyway we can contact these knuckleheads to ask for a solution??? Any address we can ask help???
It is much needed now!
Posted by J-F | December 28, 2006 11:18 AM
Go to Add-Remove programs in control panel, and click to remove WMP 11. It will ask you if you want
to roll back to WMP10. Voila, you have your old media player back. Hope that helps

I tried Bruce's idea and it worked great, now we are back to WMP 10 and can burn CDs again. Thanks Bruce

Hi Guys,
I have ripped 100-plus CDs into MP11, and now have a recurring problem - when I power up the CD many of the album tracks seem doubled up (i.e. on an album, several of the tracks show twice, with the same track number each). If I try to delete the "copy" track, it deletes both. What is causing this?

I have the same problem with media player 11 not recognizing my burner. I rolled back to media player 10 but now that doesn't recognize my burner either, although it had been working fine before I upgraded to WMP 11. Now what!!!
I have rolled back, uninstalled, reinstalled etc. I have searched high and low on various websites, and newsgroups. I have rung Microsoft but they want $50 to help me which i think is a bit rich, seeing as I just paid for my copy of Windows XP Pro 2months ago and most other purchases you make have some form of warranty...
I have seen so many others saying they have the same problem but we hear nothing from Microsoft. Why haven't they fixed this problem yet????
Posted by scotty | January 20, 2007 12:08 AM
WMP 9&10 had a cool feature called "find album info" so if the cd you were ripping didn't have all the song info - you could look it up with very little info and it would plug the songs right in.
Does anyone know where this feature is found on WMP 11

I'm having burn problems with the new WMP 11. I just upgraded and have about 2,000 songs in the library and everytime i burn it will only burn 1-3 songs and then finalze the disc telling me that the rest in the burn list can't fit and i should try a slower burn speed. I did all of that and no CD-R discs are working. Has anyone found a solution or is all my music worthless now?

I have the new windows Media Player 11 version on my computer. I have had it for about a month or so now, but one of my concerns is that I do not know how many songs I have now. Anyone know how I can find out how many songs are in my library? When I had the 10 version, it was at the bottom. I left off at like, 715 before upgrading. Now, I have no idea how many songs are on my player. I need to know. I also want the album cover viewing thing different.

O.K. I'm also having the same problems regarding burning. I am unable to burn using Windows Media Player (now that I have installed WMP11) as it will not recognize my burner.
I can burn using Nero...
What should I do?
No longer purchase, download or recommend Windows software???
I too have searched hi and low on the internet (websites, chatrooms, help, troubleshoot, etc etc) with no luck.
Where is the support???!!!

Hi, I just downloaded Windows Media 11 and when it comes up on my screen it automatically reboots my PC then when I click back on windows media 11 to open it does it again.
What could be the problem. I roll back to windows media 10 and it works fine. Then I re-install Media 11 again and I am back to constent reboot.
Whats wrong. Thanks JIm

I have the same problem burning CDs in Windows Media Player 11 (i.e., it does not recognize a disc in the burner). In my case, there is a conflict between Microsoft software and the Roxio burning software (Easy Media Creator 9) installed on my computer. If I uninstall the Roxio software and then run “msconfig” to make sure there is no remaining Roxio services still running (i.e., uncheck them if there are any left after the uninstall and then re-boot), then Windows Media Player 11 will burn CDs just fine. Likewise, if I roll back to Media Player 10 with the Roxio software installed, Windows Media Player 10 will burn CDs just fine. I've communicated with both Microsoft and Roxio about the conflict and at this time, neither Microsoft nor Roxio supports the other’s software if your computer is running the XP operating system. They both indicate you just need to uninstall the other’s respective product. I guess with Vista being released soon, at this time, fixing this software conflict is not a high priority with either vendor.

I have joined the increasing queue of unsatisfied customers with media Player 11. Try this for size:- When I select individual tunes for playlists and then view and play the playlsit on my machine - the tunes are different when played on my car MP3/WMa player.Sometimes if the burner "likes" the tunes it will burn it twice.
On other occassions the burner will select & burn several tunes from the same album. And Finally tunes rarely burn in the same order that i select.
Can we start some sort of "protest" to this blatant rip off by Microsoft who continue to ignore the most basic of problems?

Does Anyone out there Know of a system that is a viable alternative to WMP11. One that will probably do the same as WMP11 but is more reliable? If you do please let me know so that i( if no-one else) will encourage a move to microsoft's competitors.

How do I get my WM 11 to look like WM 10 again. The new black look is god-awful.
Posted by zach | January 31, 2007 4:29 PM
I used WM10 for 18 months and became an expert. I could download, copy and burn from Audio Cds and files, mp3s with no problems. Now Msoft has updated my WM to 11, and it's a pain in the a***
I get messages like "can't read the length of this track, please play it first," and I follow instructions, it still won't burn to disc, sometimes it says "no disc in drive", and it won't rip from a file.
What the hell was Microsoft thinking? They should have called this a "downgrade"! I'm going back to WMP10, if I can do so.
Posted by Ged | February 1, 2007 9:22 PM
Agree with all of the comments above with regard to burning....plus many many more. for instance, if i play (excuse me, TRY to play) a video on wmp11, it immediately states error and WMP11 must shut down. these are vids from links or my own camcorder....best thing is, even vids created in WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER!!!! so their player is not even capable of playing vids that their own software created!!! so here is am, can play maybe 1 out of every 5 tries for music (most times it shuts down in the middle of a song, if i am even lucky enough to get it to begin playing), can play zero videos without shutting down....and yeah right, i will pay $50 for some bozo at MS to tell me how to fix the problem that they created....hmmmm, do you think it could just be a bug for simple profit generation due to necessary service phone calls at $50 a pop? MS sux....period.

"In my case, there is a conflict between Microsoft Media Player 11 and the Roxio burning software (Easy Media Creator 9) installed on my computer."
The "quick fix for the conflict between Microsoft Media Player 11 and the Roxio burning software (Easy Media Creator 9) is to go into "startup" and disable Roxio Drag-to-Disc. Reboot your computer and "Drag to Disc" will not run at startup and that will allow you to burn discs in Media Player 11. For easy access to your startup control panel, try Mike Lin's "Startup Control Panel 2.8" at http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml. It's free and gives 1 click access to your startup panel if you put it on your desktop.

I do NOT like how Windows Media Player 11 starts up in the library. Can anyone tell me how I can configure it so it will always startup in the Now Playing window?
Also, I'm trying to get rid of the block above the playlist (on the right) that displays media info from the internet as it's unnecessary and not always correct.
Thanks!

I bought music files on my desktop pc. I have recently purchased a laptop computer with windows vista and WMP 11. now I can't figure out how to restore my music licenses for protected content... the folder with the licenses is on my new computer, in the music folder. WMP 11 won't let me restore it, because there is no option to anywhere in any menu. what's the deal? can someone help me?

I just found this on another forum, it worked for me:
RUN>type in Services.msc>Double click IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service
When the window pops up, change startup type to automatic, and hit start, restart wmp 11 and it will recognize the drive. At least it worked for me, who knows.
Posted by Brad White | February 13, 2007 1:31 AM
Per Brad White's post above, I checked to see the status of my IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service, but it was already started. I re-started the service, closed and re-opened WMP11, and it then would burn.

Posted by Hummergirl | February 15, 2007 1:30 PM
My problem is that all the songs in the library have 0:00 under the length column. However, when I play them, it says they are the correct length, but it still says 0:00 in the library. Does anyone have the same problem, or even better, a solution?

Windows Media Player 11....I don't have the same problems everyone here seems to have. I have been able to rip and burn cd's without a problem (granted I'm running VISTA as well). My problem is burning live albums. Is there a way to tell the software that the album is trackless or to remove the 2 second break the software seems to insist on including?
This isn't a problem for normal albums, but anything that is "Live" is a huge nusance.

Dennis, Thanks for the tip as to what feature of Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 was causing the conflict with Windows Media Player 11. I had previously disabled all of the Roxio programs (including drag to disc) from loading at startup so the proposed fix would not help in my situation. But since I never used Roxio’s "drag to disc" feature in anyway, I just uninstalled that part of the Roxio program using the "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel and that has resolved my conflict problem. I can now burn CDs from within Windows Media Player 11.:)

Pat - Just turning off the Roxio Drag to Disc progam from startup did not work for me either. I had to actually uninstall the Roxio Drag to Disc feature. To do this in Windows XP:
1. Click on Start then click on Control Panel
2. Click on Add/Remove Programs
3. Locate Roxio Drag-to-Disc item and select it.
4. Then click the Remove button.
5. Reboot once this item has uninstalled.

Hi Ryan,
Same thing happened to me. I used Bruce's suggestion of Jan 2, 2007 - read above. I could care less about WMP 11 since I'm only burning cds. Remember, you may get a pop-up saying there's a new version of WMP. It's version 11, so don't upgrade.

To whom it my concern
Why is it that Window Media Player 11 dose not tell you it has AOL in it. I hate AOL and I cant use my Windows Media player the way I us to . There is no mention any ware about AOL . Not even on the Microsoft page. I would like to know why this is and how I can get rid of the AOL. This is the usual dirty trick that AOL would do . I expected better from Microsoft.

I am not a computer geek so please excuse the unprofessional terminology. I recently installed windows media player 11. Everything seems to work ok with one exception. When i rip a cd i notice 2 different things happen and wonder if someone can explain and perhaps help me fix it. When i rip a cd sometimes the last 2 tracks on the cd take forever to rip. It sounds like a fan is turning on and off in my hard drive tower. (I remind you it could be anything, I am computer illiterate.) Sometimes it will take 20 minutes to finnish 1 or 2 songs. When i run into this particular problem the fan is going constantly while the cd is ripping. Other times i hear no fan and the cds rip perfectly. Why? How can i set things up to rip consistently and without noise and fairly quickly. Can any one help?

Hello all with media player 11 problems in attempting to fix the starts and stops.
I have been trying to fix this now for 8 weeks on my xp os and have had no success. I uninstalled 11 and went back to 10 and now 10 won't work either. I did a re-install of xp and that did not help one bit but now my xp os works a bit better and only have 237 errors in xp where before I had over 460 or so errors.
WHAT CAUSES ALL THESE ERRORS AND THEY MUST BE CAUSING SOME PROBLEMS WITH MEDIA PLAYER 10 AND 11 CAUSE 10 WORKED JUST FINE AND THEN I REMOVED 10 AND DOWNLOADED 11 AND MAYBE DOWNLOADING 11 CAUSED 10 TO NOT WORK????DUNNO BUT AFTER 8 WEEKS MESSING AROUND WITH TRYING TO FIX 11...I have given up as my Hair is getting even grayer!!
Grrrrr....this is so frustrating and I will never ever download any BETA Program again as it should not be released to the public until the BUGS have been gotten rid of. The programmers should take a copy of whatever Beta program they have written and use it for at least one month at home on their own computer to test it thoroughly.
I don't care to get more gray hair as I have enough already so guys can you find me a fix for my media player 11 or is the fix to remove it entirely and never use it and throw it on the junk pile of CD's that are no good....I live in hope that someday it will get fixed but will never spend 8 weeks on anything that Microsoft produces and I thought they were the best producers of software, but have, since this BAD experience decided all Microsoft is after is turning out Junk.....I was going to download VISTA IN HOPES IT WOULD BE BETTER THAN XP, but I don't believe it would be so I am not going to download it. I feel like going back to 98 as that os worked just fine. The more new programs they come out with the more problems it has!! Jim

Yesterday, I emailed your organization regarding a problem with burning blank cd's.
I received a whole lot of nothing, except the opportunity to pay you for your time, to tell me what the problem was.
I became curious after your reply. So I googled the following. "Media Player 11 won't burn blank cd's on my computer.
I was very surpised to find a website with dozens of other people with the same problem. None of whom have had any resolution without having to pay their fifty dollar fee. I am beginning to get a bit suspicious. Could it be that Microsoft is taking advantage of this problem to make money from us poor unsuspecting potential users?
I think, like many others, that I will revert back to Media Player 10, or better still, download iTunes instead. Or Microsoft could be gracious enough to give free support to those of us who have taken the time to download the product.
If enough people experience the problem. Someone might contact the media about a possible scam to get money from an unsuspecting public.

Was having problems with media player 10 (sound quality terrible, but sound OK with all other programs) so I just upgraded to Windows media player 11. I can't get it to play anything!!! When I choose any track (audio or video) from my library I get a message "Windows media player has encountered a problem and need to close....click to send errror report" This happens with all file formats. Anyone know why this is happening? How can I fix it?
I have been using Musicmatch jukebox and the sound is great, but can't use it for video. I have an old version Microsoft media player "classic" which will play video but does not have library capabilities, was hoping the media player 11 would fix all the problems but SOL!!

For no reason Windows Media Player stopped recognising my mobile phone. I downloaded version 11 but still no joy. I have previously synched tracks from my library to the phone no problem at all. Any ideas as to what has happened.

I have the same problem as everyone else. Can no longer burn music to CDs now that I have downloaded MP11. Have tried rolling back using Control Panel & Add/Remove Programs but when rollback complete it is still on MP11. My PC cannot be restored to any earlier point either. Any suggestions please. For instance is it possible to download MP10 from somewhere (I run XP Home Edition)and then remove MP11 completely ? If so where from ?

Recently upgraded from WMP10 to WMP11 - major mistake!!
Can't run any videos. Usually freezes with a white screen before kicking me out with an error message.
Has anyone any solutions? If not, doesn't matter as I don't intend to use this garbage anymore!!

I'm using WMP11 using Vista Home Premium Edition. When I play a song it begins "skipping" at precisely 20 seconds before the song ends. I have searched all over the internet for someone with the same issue and have been unsuccessful. Has anyone else had this issue and more importantly have a solution?
Posted by John | May 21, 2007 1:26 AM
John, I am having the same problem with the lagging at the end of songs with wm11 but i'm unsure of a solution sorry.

Hey guys,
I was going through this blog and realised there was no solution to the above two problems.
http://blogs.msdn.com/saveenr/archive/2007/03/25/delayed-starting-skips-stuttering-in-windows-media-player-11.aspx
With a little more internet trawling, here's your answer. No more skipping, no more delayed starts!!! Thanx Saveen Reddy, you're my hero.
Hope it helps, over and out. Dan.

I am very upset to say the least as the windows media player 11 keeps getting the com surrogate error and hardly any of my songs will now play on my huge web site juke box nor alot in the files? Did it corrupt the files or what? I'm new to this and I'm at a loss for words how upsetting this is. I've read and read and took it to a PC guy who is wondering what the heck is going on as well? I tried rolling it back to 10 and it will not allow me to do that. I took 11 out of my programs and then downloaded 10 and it still won't work now? DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SOLUTIONS OR MICROSOFT PAYS FOR OUR PC PROBLEMS AND GETTING IT FIXED AND OUR LOSSES AND HARD WORK? ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS ON THE SETTINGS OR ANYTHING ON HOW OR WHAT I COULD TRY WOULD SURE APPREICATE IT AS MICROSOFT SURE DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE! THANKS

Thanks Brad White & Dennis.
With the Roxio all I had to do was turn off the Drag to Disc from its menu, and WMP11 now burns normally. But I had to do it from the menu, and not just hitting the X button. I do get the feeling this was done purposely to get people to turn off their Roxio software.

Hey gang. WMP11 won't detect disc. Just keeps spitting it out. Tried everything above except rolling back to 10. Would like not to. This one's got me baffled. I used to be able to burn with 11 but I don't know what happened.

I have a couple of WMP 11 queries. In WMP 10 you could immediately see the complete length of a playlist at the bottom of the screen...say 1:18:42 You could know that, even allowing for track pauses, all the tracks would burn onto a blank cd. All my artist playlists would be around this length. In WMP 11 I can't find this total length, where is it? I'm sure I can't be the only person who built up 'cd length' playlists. Secondly, in WMP 10 you could add a music file from Unknown Artist and it would prompt you to either add to an existing playlist (by scrolling dow the playlist pane) or create a new playlist, enter a name, and click ok. Why doesn't WMP 11 do this? If I now click on the music file a box appears with 'add to playlist', I click it and I don't know where the h--- it's gone? Any advice?

Well I guess I am not alone, with Windows Media Player 11. I rip songs of discs I pay for and convert them to MP3's to play in my car, cheaper than getting a ten stacker cd player. When I first used WMP11 it did the MP3 discs no problem, now it does them, but they will not play on anything accept the computer I burnt them on (Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I have been matching the discs that wont play now, to the ones that were successful. The discs are not being finalised, hence no play back accept on my comuter. I have followed the Vista help files instructions with no success. Any one with a solution? If not I will really have to consider removing Vista and go back to XP, but from what I have read hear that tells me the problem is seeping into XP. I am being polite, I spent 3 hours with a Microsoft Technical Support Officer on the phone, who was rude and arrogant, and in the end he said I will have to go to a manager and get them to ring you back, still waiting for that call. Does anyone know of an operating system other than microsoft, that is stable?

Have the earlier problems with Windows media Player 11 been resolved yet? I upgraded from WMP9 to 11 a while back and constantly get the message
"unable to burn to CD" error "C00D10A" What does this mean? The other thing is that while the streaming audio is just fine the audio from ripped tracks is much lower in volume.
So far know one has been able to sugest a fix for this and I'm considering rolling back to WMP10 or even 9 if I cant fix it. Any ideas much appreciated.

I too had problems with media player 11 detecting blank disks. I tried all ways I could find by reading on web sites to
get media player to detect a blank disk so I could burn audio disks. Well the problem is fixed now I'm very happy to say cause I like media player 11 over all the rest. The problem was my guess in the registry cause all I done was run a program called registrysmart and it fixed the problem right away. I hope this helps all with the same problem I was havning. Media player 11 has the best features over Winamp and music match and real player I feel.

I'm running Windows XP, I had Media Player 11 up until last night. I have now rolled back to an earlier verison as I could not burn a disc's along with freind and family, I've told them to do the same. It will not recognize the burner and say's it has no disc, I tried and tried with new disc's each time.

Get Roxio Easy Cd and DVD Creator. You can drag and drop MP3 to there and burn to cd in mp3 or cd format. Media Player 11 is a piece of crap. I just use it to rip and organize.

Regarding WMP 11 problems. Sounds like issues with both XP and Vista O.S. My computer came w/vista premium, then upgraded to Ultimate. WMP still would'nt open for me with or without the upgrade. No dif. What did help was to restart your comp. and open WMP right away after startup. Don't give it time to think! My answer is download Cheetah DVD &CD burner, click start, choose req'd format, drag & drop, click burn. Superfast w/no nonsense. Also download new version of Winamp for no nonsense playing, streaming, some burning. For ripping and recording, download Super mp3 recorder Pro from Megaupload.com and change your sound settings in control panel from mic to headphone. Whatever then comes out of your headphone jack, you can rip or record. Works awesome for me, forget WMP.

I have had a similar problem with XP Media edition and WMP11.
The player did not recognise either of my CD/DVD burners but my other burning software worked fine. It also would not auto play any CD/DVD it would just open and view files.
After hunting the net for about 80 hours I found that some registry files might have been corrupted during a MS update..As my computer tells me it is a Pro not a Media edition lol. So I downloaded "Enable CD Auto Play for pro" to restore the registry files. Then just opened the file and it self installed...I restarted the comp and hey presto, not only did my auto play work but now WMP11 see's my burners.
Here is the site for the download...I hope it works for you as it did for me.

I play a lot of classical CDs and WMP 11 does a consistently poor job of finding the album and track info.
Instead, I have to sift through dozens (or hundreds) of CD search results in a tiny non-resizable WMP window - only to find nothing.
Why is this so difficult a task to do???!!
Frustrated.

All I did was turn off the nero plugin in WMP. Goto Tools > Plugins > Options > Scroll down to Background option and then untick "Nero Fast CD Burning Plugin". Restart WMP and hey presto it recognises a blank disc!

Hey those who are not able to open wmp11 here is the solution... it worked for me like magic...
If you use Windows Media Player 11 and you get a message such as, “An internal application error has occurred”, the application doesn’t start or some elements of the application is blank and doesn’t show anything, there may be a fix for you. The problem is, is that some components are not fully registered with the system and so re-registering them should fix it.
1. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
2. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.

I have XP and upgraded from 10 to 11. I do a lot of downloads and use "Add To Playlist" function from the Start Menu many times a day. 11 eliminated this function, which is quick and easy, so I rolled back to 9 and tried to upgrade back to 10. Microsoft shot me a warning when I tried to reinstall it that 10 was no longer 'compatible' with my system. Yeah. Right. I'm sticking with 9. IMHO 10 was the best, 11 one of MS's worst ideas in their history.

I have Windows Media Player 11 and tonight is the first time I've tried burining a CD using it. Normally I've used Music Match in the past, but I liked the way Media player was displaying the files, so I gave it a try.
I burned a full CD of songs and then when I tried listening to it, many of the songs would only play 20 to 30 seconds of the music and then go to the next song. That's when I noticed that the time for the songs were only showing up as that amount of time, however Media Player had no problem playing the whole song from the file on the computer.
I opened Music Match and looked at these same files and the correct time for the song was there.
Anyone know what is going on here?

Problem:
"Please insert blank disc into cd drive, when windows media player (11) detects the new disc it will start burning automatically." I was trying to burn pictures to a cd-r.
Possible Solution:
Insert blank disc, then open Windows Media Player 11. WMP recognized the disc and burned my pics.

I have also found that removing Nero InCD will resolve the issue of WMP11 not seeing the CD. If you cannot see this in Add/remove Programs in Control panel, then you can download a specific InCD tool to remove this eg from:
http://download.chip.eu/en/InCD-CleanTool-1.1_111954.html
If you need InCD (most won't as XP has its own native application), you can always re-install InCD and test to see if the rogue registry entry or driver is still a problem with WMP.
Posted by jpx | June 15, 2008 9:13 AM
Correction, the above possible fix of uninstalling InCD with a clean up tool didn't work. After a re-boot the problem returned!!
I have tried to uninstall Nero 8 completely and WMP still couldn't see the media (although it can read from it if you want to rip). Re-installing Nero and InCD doesn't change matters.
So still no resolution.

I RECENTLY UPGRADED MY WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER FROM VERSION 9 TO 11. BECAUSE OF A LARGE MUSIC COLLECTON OF CASSETTES ETC.. WHICH I HAVE CONVERTED TO DIGITAL, A CD BURNER IS A MUST TO MAKE CD'S. HOWEVER IN THE PAST I HAD REPLACED A DEFECTIVE CD BURNER (DRIVE E) WITH A NEW EXTERNAL CD BURNER (DRIVE K). WHEN I USED VERSION 9 IT WORKED FINE AND BURNED CD'S ON K. VERSION 11 WILL NOT RECOGNIZE DRIVE K. THETRUBLESHOOTING INSTRUCTIONS IN V. 11 SAYS "IF YOU HAVE MULTIPLE CD BURNERS AND THE BURNER YOU WANT TO USE IS NOT THE ONE SELECTED, CHOOSE THE ONE YOU WANT TO USE BY CLICKING THE NEXT DRIVE LINK IN THE LIST PANE ABOVE THE PLAY LIST. THE NEXT DRIVE LINK DOES NOT EXIST WHER IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. DOES ANY BODY KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THE DRIVE SO THAT MY CD BURNER IS USEFUL AGAIN.
