When $80 Billion Is Not Enough
|
It's just speculation at this point. But there were rumors this past weekend that Microsoft offered $80 billion for Yahoo. Yahoo was said to have rejected the bid as too low. On Tuesday, even though neither party would comment, talk of a potential Yahoo-Microsoft deal of some kind sent Yahoo shares up 4.4 percent. For the record, Microsoft has $40 billion in cash at hand. |

If the deal materialises it will be a huge gain for microsoft in terms of online services. It would be significant both in terms of revenue and marketshare. I think if Microsoft isn't able to buy it even google won't be able to do so. Remember Vista's market is just picking up and if the new products that are going to be released clicks Microsoft will leave google far behaind and in couple of years you might see Microsoft buying Yahoo at their quoted price. Well it may sound like an speculation but the way Microsoft is innovating its not a distant thing.

It would be one of the largest deal if it takes place. But to me it seems unrealistic in current scenario. However if it takes place it would be left with only one major competitor-google. And who knows one day it might then join hands with google too. That would be pretty bad for search engine marketers.
