Redmond Updates Its Server Roadmap

As part of its SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services launch, Microsoft Enterprise Server Senior VP Paul Flessner offered one of his regular Microsoft roadmap updates, designed to help customers and partners better plan for what's on tap from the software kingpin. Flessner reiterated that Microsoft plans to deliver in calendar 2004 its "Whidbey" Visual Studio, "Yukon" SQL Server, ISA Server 2004 and BizTalk Server 2004 products. He said to expect Yukon and Whidbey to be released "very closely together." But he declined to offer even a hint of when Longhorn Server might debut, claiming it is in "early planning phases" only. And if Longhorn client — as Microsoft Chairman Gates reportedly said yesterday is still "two or three years away" — LH Server must be way, way out there.
