Microsoft Delivers Beta 3 of Standalone Internet Explorer Browser

Microsoft posted on June 29 for download the Beta 3 version of its standalone Internet Explorer (IE) 7.0 browser.

Beta 3 is designed to run on Windows XP Service Pack (SP) 2, XP Professional x64, Windows Server 2003 SP 1, Windows Server 2003 x64 and Windows Server 2003 ia64 systems.

The new beta is downloadable from Microsoft's IE Web site. The build, which is the successor to the Beta 2 build delivered in April, is available to any and all comers.

The latest IE beta brings the standalone version of IE 7.0 in line with the IE 7.0 code that is integrated into the latest test build of Windows Vista. Microsoft made that new Vista build, No. 5456, available to selected technical beta testers for download on June 23.

Microsoft made some fairly minor changes to IE Beta 3, based on feedback from testers of previous IE beta builds, company officials said. Among the changes:

  • An optional addition of an e-mail button back on the IE toolbar
  • The ability to reorder tabs by dragging them
  • The ability to scroll horizontally while zooming
  • Automatic update of all RSS feeds simultaneously
  • Increased user control in marking RSS feeds as "read"
  • Improved compatibility with existing Web sites and applications through adjustments to IE 7 layout rendering bugs
  • Inclusion of all IE security fixes made in Microsoft's June 13 Patch Tuesday update.

Microsoft is still aiming to deliver the final version of the standalone IE 7.0 around the same time as Windows Vista is released to manufacturing, which is still fall 2006, according to Microsoft officials.

Microsoft already is working on the next two versions of Internet Explorer. The company has committed to delivering regular IE updates on an approximately yearly basis, going forward.

I don't know what URL stands for but I am looking for dry loop or stand alone connection DSL service. I know AT&T probably has it but not in my area. I have DSL service from bellsouth but I need to have stand alone connection for long distance phone service from Vonage. At this time Bellsouth is telling me they do not have that service in my area.
