From Microsoft Watch: The pre-holiday bad-news hits just keep coming. In the same week that it dumped WinFS, cut 214 of its sales staff and delayed Office 2007's launch to some unspecified "early 2007" date, Microsoft also issued a warning to its employees in the Europe, Middle East and Africa about potential fallout from the European antitrust trial. On June 30, Microsoft is set to provide, as promised, the European antitrust oversight committee with more networking-protocol documentation. But Microsoft is doubtful that its "tireless" efforts in this area will be enough. An internal e-mail from a member of Microsoft's legal departmentwarns employees that Microsoft believes a $2.5-million-a-day antitrust fine is headed its way.
