The Vista Coupons Are Coming

Here's what we know: PC makers and Microsoft have been working for months on coupons that they will issue to consumers this fall for Vista systems that will be ready some time next year (so far, January 2007). Microsoft and its PC partners have made no bones about the fact that some kind of Vista "tech guarantee" is in the works. According to DigiTimes, the Vista coupons will hit in October. Microsoft isn't talking coupon dates; whether or not customers buying holiday XP systems will get a free upgrade to Vista once it is released; and/or how the tech guarantee dovetails (or doesn't) with Microsoft's planned "Upgrade Anytime" Vista program.

I wish that they offered a program that would allow a free or discounted upgrade to Vista 30 to 60 days prior to launch. Vista just went RTM on Nov 8th 2006 the date when OEMs get their CDs, and to qualify for the Vista Express Upgrade program you have to have bought a PC after Oct 26th 2006.

I just missed out on a free upgrade by a few days having bought my Hewlett Packard Media Center PC in early October. The free Vista Upgrade coupon program should have gone back 30days in the past after it was announced to avoid customers feeling ripped off.

The free upgrade should have gone back to Sept 26th or Oct 1st 2006 for these customers.
