Windows Phone 7 Tablet Best Design I've Seen All Week
|
Umang Dokey, a "multidisciplinary designer" specializing in graphic and product design, recently posted a rendering of an 8-inch tablet PC running Windows Phone 7 Series. Wired and other sites have already posted articles about the design (Wired's take can be found here), and it's definitely worth a look-see:
As you can read on Umang Dokey's site (that's where you find the above image), the hypothetical tablet contains a physical keyboard/built-in stand, and two Web cameras for "3-D" video conferencing. The Windows Phone 7 Series user interface actually lends itself to a horizontally oriented tablet, given that Microsoft designed each "hub" of aggregated Web-and-app content to scroll/swipe left-to-right:
A physical keyboard, of course, would make it easier to write e-mails and documents. (Full disclosure: What has two thumbs and hates virtual keyboards? This guy.) The tablet PCs actually being manufactured by the likes of Hewlett-Packard will feature Windows 7, which offers navigation on touch-screen devices via tapping and swiping through applications (check out this video). But a smartphone operating system, designed with a touch-screen device wholly in mind, might prove a more effective fit. Just a thought. Besides, Umang Dokey is apparently looking for a gig, and if his images and video don't constitute a great design C.V., I'm not sure what does. |

So, basically this is a concept design. That's fairly easy to do. It's getting this device to the retail market that's going to be difficult. The iPad will have a keyboard/stand but won't have any cameras. We'll see the iPad in action on April 3rd. I doubt if anyone knows when they'll see an actual working model of this Windows Phone 7 tablet.

3D video conferencing? Wow! Wonder how fast that'd burn through the battery? This isn't even vaporware - it is pure imagination ware. You're right Melangell (from St. Melangell?) - Apple must be quaking in their boots.
