March Orcas CTP Shows Some Expression?
|
The March CTP (Community Technology Preview) of Visual Studio "Orcas" is available for download. |
Rob Caron, Microsoft's lead product manager for Developer Content Strategy, announced availability in a late-day post on his Weblog.
While the Orcas CTP is labeled as March, it released in February, as had been planned. The build is supposed to offer some Expression-like tools some developers had been asking for.
Contrary to the developer-focused presentations at Microsoft's 2005 developer conference (another PDC takes place this year), designers are the only target market for Expression Suite. Microsoft plans to offer comparable tools for developers, with the first ones planned for the March Orcas CTP.
I haven't installed the CTP, but based on the readme information, there are someemphasis on somenew features that will appeal to those developers hungry for Expression, such as new Web development features (ASP.NET Web forms) and Windows Presentation Foundation Designer enhancements (mostly XAML controls). It's a slow start, but something.
Plenty of other good stuff for developersbunch of new XML tools and a big Windows Communications Foundation and Windows Workflow Foundation goody bag.
We to have ask: Developers wanting more Expression and looking for similar tools in Orcas, was the March CTP worth the wait?

This is so nice to know about the release of "Orcas" March CTP. I am in the want of integrating the "Orcas" deeply in the upcoming service pack or second release of Windows Vista o that developer can take full advantage of the inbuilt technologies of Windows Vista.
Also I am very disappointed to know about the flaws and bugs occurred recently in the Vista. So please hurry up in order to fill security holes in the SP 1 of Windows Vista. Again I am reminding you that I am in the favour of integrating the robust and powerful AntiVirus or Internet Security Suite then only complete security can be achievable.

We currently do all our development in VS 2003 and .Net Framework 1.1. I'm very excited about the Orcas CTP. We are considering skipping VS 2005 and going straight to Orcas when it becomes available.
Yes, Expression functionality is very important to us as it will ease the dev process between ui design and code. I look forward to see what support the CTP has included in it!

I have been programing with the frameworks since they first appeared. I think the tools have been getting better with each release.
However, after writing xaml, I feel like someone has slipped me a red pill and I am in some rabbits hole. It is very different and the tools are strange in some alice and wonderland type of way.
