Microsoft Updates Web Developer Roadmap

This afternoon, Microsoft released updated roadmap information for .NET Framework, Silverlight and Internet Information Server 7. Bottom line: Big upgrades are coming in 2008.

Scott Guthrie, general manager of Microsoft's developer division, laid out the roadmaps in a blog post.

What's coming:

  • ASP.NET 3.5 Extensions preview release, available next week. Big emphasis: Silverlight support.
  • "Astoria" will be included in next week's ASP.NET 3.5 Extensions preview release. Astoria is Microsoft's incubation project for exposing data as a service.
  • Silverlight 2.0 is scheduled to release in first quarter 2008. For anyone wondering what happened to Silver 1.1, it's got a new 2.0 name. "After stepping back and looking at all the new features in it ... we've realized that calling it a point release doesn't really reflect the true nature of it," Guthrie wrote.
  • New Silverlight 2.0 will focus on the delivery of rich Internet applications, which can be said of the ASP .NET and Astoria updates.
  • Presumably, around the same time as the Silverlight 2.0 beta, Microsoft will release a new tool for Silverlight development from within Visual Studio 2008. Last week, Microsoft released Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5.

Guthrie revealed much less about IIS (Internet Information Server) 7, which is scheduled to release as part of Windows Server 2008. Some questions remain about ASP.NET and IIS 7, but today's blog post is Microsoft affirmation to its ASP.NET commitment.

Something to watch: Microsoft's data model emphasis, which is more than just about rich Internet applications delivery. The emphasis directionally reveals something about Microsoft's forthcoming Web services platform. Data-driven may not be a new concept, but Microsoft is positioning for a leap frog over competitors. That's topic for another post. :)

Finally: In a sign that Flash's days are numbered at Microsoft, there is a new Silverlight-powered Download Center beta preview.

Joe,

Your second bullet point: I couldn't get Microsoft to confirm Astoria's inclusion in next week's release bits.

Your third bullet point: A beta version of Silverlight 2.0 is due in 2008Q1, as you note in your last bullet point. (It will have a GoLive license.)

A major point is that the Silverlight 2.0 tools will work with the free VS 2008 Express Editions.

It's obvious that VCSY will soon be talked about by more than just me.

So how will Microsoft get around the lawsuit with VCSY?
Having it removed from Yahoo and other areas of the internet only shows how stupid the think the readers are. Out of "site" out of their minds!

Hi, Roger,

Scott Guthrie said so in his post, although he gave no details about what development status will be the bits.

Those of you who think...

... Microsoft is going to prevail in the VCSY v MSFT case because Microsoft says they aren't infringing and the patent is invalid, need to know that's the standard defense in all the patent cases that Microsoft has already lost.

Identical language and yet you folks are easily fooled, aren't you?

"Microsoft countered that it did not infringe z4's patents, that the '471 and '825 patents were invalid for anticipation and obviousness, and that both patents were unenforceable due to inequitable conduct..."

POORTUNA, has been saying this crap for SEVEN going on EIGHT years and he hasn't been right YET?
But he keeps on blowing about how VCSY IS GOING TO BE bigger than IBM AND bankrupt MSFT.... BS ALL OF IT!
The guy is a LOAD WITH NO FRIENDS or FAMILY and sets on his computer day and night making his money buy selling suckers like me and most everybody that believed him or believes him now, About HIS BS BILL OF GOODS ABOUT VCSY.
ANYBODY in their right mind could see that the only thing that this company has going for right now buy reading its 10Q is NOW SOLUTIONS and the MSFT INFRINGMENT CASE!
NOW is losing money every quarter and VCSY IS mainpulating its borrwers that have defaulted loans!
After reading the 10Q one would have to be somewhat cautious, Not to say that something could happen but to set day after day and speculate and make hypotheticals about every press release that comes out that has some similar technology as vcsy is a HUGE RED FLAG that these people have one thing in mind and that would be their bank accounts and not yours or mine!

Here's another one. To: morrie33 From: Portuno_Diamo

Subject: the conspiracy... dun dun duuunn

Buena vista, senor morrie.

So what part of the conspiracy theory do they want to know?

Lycos had a CFO in 2000 who took Chinadotcom public in 2000. In October 6, 2004 he showed up as CEO of Lycos for a brief while. August 23, 2005 he left Lycos. The article citing his departure said "...officials were mum about his fate."

We know recy had the ability to have specific posts deleted. They are all recorded in posts made to bring the deletions to the attention of the longs. They can give you the post numbers or repost them as they desire. Makes no matter to me.

I think authorities have been on to these guys for a long time. What makes me think that is there was an SEC investigation in 2004 that recy and I both found out about during an exchange on the SUGG RB board. Another poster informed recy that VCSY was indeed involved in an SEC investigation and he had a SEC source to prove it.

The next day, recy's posts to this poster and me were deleted along with others by mikl_c, one of his aliases.

The only way that can be done is if recy or reflexxxhun has access to passwords that give them adminstrative priviledges on the RB board. I believe the evidence posted here on Raging Bull indicates recy and reflex were installed as operatives during 2000 when the plans to take VCSY were taking real shape and getting under way.

I think either of them, both of them, or someone they know is able to gain adminstrative access to the Raging Bull database as they demonstrate they are able to TOS and delete rather handily at will.

One thing, however, indicates to me we have little to fear. One of recy43's posts as rcle is left out of rcle's entire posting history. It appears an attempt was made to delete all the posts but one was left by other insiders at Raging Bull to demonstrate a point. I noticed a decided increased amperage in recy43's anxiety posts during that time. The funny thing about the rcle post; the one post left was the most incriminating one. LOL

Can you imagine how tight that character's pucker string came up when the one last rcle post wouldn't disappear. Oh doodness. Somebody wan outta piddies.

I think that masked avenger of all things moneyed and fiduciary, The Green Hornet, is waiting to apply the stinger once VCSY has satisfaction with CDC. They wouldn't spoil a little court party as VCSY is having their say in civil court first as it ought to be since I think the SEC came in late.

The SEC appears to have come to the party late as VCSY was called on the carpet by the SEC in December 1, 2004 for delinquent filings. VCSY was cleared by SEC not long after.

The Chairman of CDC, Dr. Chi'en, took the CEO post of CDC several months later in March 2005. Of Dr. Chi'en's many titles and honors was one; "Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Corruption of the Independent Commission Against Corruption". I don't know what that looks like in Chinese, but in English it spell heap big trouble from somebody who doesn't fool around.

Dr. Chi'en was there until August 31, 2005 - one week after the disappearance of the Lycos CEO. Dr. Chi'en left office and CDC to carry on. Patric Tinley was installed (plugged in, I think) as CDC CEO October 31, 2005. He was dismissed curtly December 12, 2005 - the same day VCSY was reinstalled to the OTCBB from pinksheets.

Sting? Tick tick tick, as it were.

We do know the SEC has been watching and we know Lycos connection to CDC through a bounced official is quite suspect given the timing and the circumstances.

There's a bunch more, but this one here is all we're concerned about for right now until after the trial is sorted out. That is what is getting rung out in court. It may take a long long time. Whatever happens I do know VCSY patent technologies are as I have posted and that is not speculation. Those are the things these kinds of patents can do.

I'm an investor. I'm here for years to come because I know just the value of the patents alone is enough to make my investment extremely nice even if it took ten years to consumate. All the other dotcom stocks - where are they? VCSY was once one of the best known stocks in 2000. They will again be one of the best known stocks in good time. But, for now, we want to know who these people are that are desiring for VCSy to fail so desperately.

So, for me, all the near profitability of Now Solutions, the deals and wheels - all that is gravy. The patents are cash because they occupy the places in industry needs that I said they do. that's not speculation, that's demonstrable observations with references.

And if they can do those things, I say once they have a chance to finally operate out in the open, the technology audience will be wowed for sure. Why? Because of the reaction the community gave to Google when they finally brought out Microsoft's tools out of the basement.

VCSY tools are what MSFT wanted. If that is not true they are incompetent in recognizing structure and usefullness. I ownder what they will say about why they ignored the announcement of the XML Enabler Agent two weeks before hailstorm. Valid question. VCSY had what Hailstorm was supposed to be able to do. MSFT apparently felt they had enough in their Silkroute method. Silkroute was later patented in 2003 (Hailstorm melted in 3Q2001). Silkroute was the only significant challenge to the XML Agent patent. VCSY XML Agent Patent was issued July 13, 2006.

Their passion to desire and what passion can do, is another thing to examine and we've alreaady gone there. I can recount if you like or people can find the message post numbers. Don't have much time for that anymore.

My speculations concerning Microsoft's level of knowledge in the whole above affair is based on surmisings given their actions and reactions to events that can be mapped in time. I think those indications are furtive and tend toward nefarious knowledge and possible nefarious activities when taken in conjunction with VCSY developments and actions.

I'm not stupid. I know that's a big statement to make.

So that's a whole another layer to the onion and I will gladly go there. Including the discussions regarding mister Feeney's indicated vision for the future and Mister Millers professed animosity toward all things Feeney and all the tricklings down through the wrinkled pate set. Shiny as an onion skin.

If anyone likes, I shall wax eloquent on my suspicions and referenced surmisings. I invite anyone who is of a different mind to provide a valid argument. At least beyond ridiculing "speculations".

That's what Microsoft had their offical blogger do when the rumor was flying that Vista would have to have a 60% rewrite. He condemned such blogging as "speculation" and demanded the articles be retracted and the author fired from the blogsite. Didn't happen, folks. The speculation was correct and probably optimistic.

As soon as somebody can field something more than tp on a stick I will respond to any challenge, but these inane losers who got in over their heads and can't figure out how to get out should be put on ignore and left in the dark. They don't know what to do, so they try the same game they've been doing all along. The tactics that virtually guaranteed VCSy woudl stay in the public eye and develop a hardcore of empassioned longs that are ready to chew up an anteaters ass to get their money and the satisfaction of winning the argument (as we have done for the past 6 years).

Stupid tactic to throw gasoline on the fire by TOSing people like rapidRobert and riffraff and morrie. It just makes more longs angry and ready to find out what is at the bottom of the pile. It also stirs interest as no other way could. Those that sought to destroy VCSy actually are responsible, in a large part, for ensuring VCSy would survive. They managed to do the prospering against all odds.

Each day we see the actions of specific companies acting as thigns happen around VCSY. The XML world is quiescent - at baseline - no advances and no announcemnts. Why? I think the VCSY XML Enabler Agent derived from a number of the XML Agent technology patent is what is hanging up the larger players int eh XML arena. The development of Ajax/Atlas is among gamers and techies. Business is afraid of Ajax because it's not a technology, it's a methodology and can be attempted by anyone - including a kid in his basement.

VCSY is AJAX on steroids and eating the contest judges.

We keep putting information out there. It's up to people to read and think fo rthemselves. If they don't, they have only recy's gang to blame. We longs have been as free and open with our information as we possibly can.

Obviously somebody in RagingBull is furiously trying to stop posters. Otherwise, how could they be removed so easily when others much more offensive and abusive act with impunity in the face of numerous and repeated attempts and appeals to Raging Bull by longs.

I believe Dr. Chi'en knows where the traps have been placed. I believe he would rather have a clean slate for his company and see some scoundrels swing than to have to judge his own company's behaviour in VCSY's instance in the face of the remainder of the Council of peers he serves in the Chinese technology industry interests.

That said, the CDC CEO is making this as long and as difficult a task as possible. I think the gamblers are all placing the bets, though:

On May 15, 2006 VCSY sealed an agreement with StatepointPlus which gave their system software and hardware security far beyond anything capable in traditional systems. Compared to this security system Microsoft is in diapers in the middle fo the street.

On the same day, General Atlantic sold SSA Global to Infor. So what?

I predict CDC will end up losing CDC software and GA will move in some way to occupy that spot. Why? It is the best strategic position for GA to put itself in by dumping a 20th century technology like SSA Global et al and picking up a Chinese Platform upon which to seed the Chinese market with services.

Where would they get that opportunity? By buying it from VCSY when the company is awarded CDC Software or having GA/CDC Clough broker a face-saving transition.

But, then, Mister Yip seems bound and determined to drag things into the mire. If Micrososft doesn't get cracking on porting database structure and content and dynamics out in XML and back with audit/change control and high management functions, they will not be able to work in eh XML interoperable space. Neither will others liek yahoo, who obviously requires Micrososft technolgoy, or they would be doign what Google is doing.

This isn't difficult to do, people, unless there's a patent on that method and then everybody has problems. So why is everybody but Google and IBM and Verizon (and let's just throw in VCSY since they have what these three guys need to have - not speculation - I've demonstrated what the enabler agent does and what IBM did with theirs and what others would have to confront at some time.) having problems with the new interoperable software?

THAT is why most people should be here in VCSY. the conspiracy is so far for entertainment. Later, it will be for notoriety and publicity value and money. All good things to get when you have to have lawyers.

Do you think it's outrageous? Do you think it's impossible? Give me another reason why Dr. Chi'en - head of anticorruption for at least the entire CDC corporation - would need to sniff through his company's management and operations for nine months? Especially when CDC ends up being a defendant in a VCSY issue opened and investigated by the SEC during the months before Dr. Chi'en's move.

Not the least suspicious? Huh? LOL

I guess it takes alot more brains than I thought to read those detective novels because this one is easier to follow than one of those. Just dig through 6 years of trivia and little details and you can see where things come and go.

And if I can do it, the SEC has lots of healthy guys that can do it better than me.

So, that's just the highlights, mind you. But, if you want to drink the koolaid, just start doing your own googling and you'll be as crazy as RapidRobert before long. Once you see it, you get the hook in your jaw and sure enough when J Petty of TecSec popped up with his history, a mass of URLs we unearthed several years ago fell into place.

The rest of you (the big you, not you morrie) will have to have bigger proof, I guess. That's OK. It's your money. Do with it what you like. If you're scared, do yourself a favor; either learn to read and think and do it for yourself or sell all the VCSY stock you have and leave.

Sorry. Just a little snippy tonight. Thinking about how these clowns have delayed and trashed this company since 2001 gets me a bit miffed. I don't know what's going to befall them when "the rest" of MSFT finds out their silkroute patent isn't worth wetting down in a bowl of cheerios.

I know there are people who think I'm crazy, but, once they read what I've laid out, they quit laughing. It happens and I love the shocked look on "the expert's" faces. Microsoft has betrayed their trusts. They will repay. Their own clients and developers will see to that.

We have bigger fish to fry.
