4 Softies and a Pizza Guy

News Commentary. Maybe geeks do have a sense of humor. I actually like the 4 Softies and a Pizza Guy video.

I'm surprised to admit it because I found the Windows Vista SP1 video to be oh-so lame. But not this one. There's a campy, "we're not taking ourselves too seriously" quality about the music video, which is marketing prep for this month's Professional Developers Conference.

arrow.gifGOT A TIP OR RUMOR?

The video reveals something important for PDC attendees: You won't just be getting a pre-beta copy of Windows 7 on disc. Microsoft will load the bits onto a 160GB hard drive. That raises two questions: Is Seven too big to fit on a 4.7GB DVD or is Microsoft delivering the bits virtualized? The answer might easily be both.

Back to the music video, which had me laughing. Long and loud. Maybe it's because I'm a real fan of music videos that make fun of boy bands—as this one appears to. Blink-182's "All the Small Things" is the definitive make-fun-of-boy-bands video.

The 4 Softies and a Pizza Guy video would be disastrous if it was meant to be taken seriously. These guys are kidding, right? How could they be serious?

4 Softies and a Pizza Guy Facebook and MySpace pages support the video. I was surprised not to find 4 Softies and a Pizza guy on Windows Live Spaces. And what about Twitter?

The marketing objective here isn't Windows 7 promotion, but enticing developers to attend PDC and engaging those planning to go. I expect the concept to go viral, but in a muted way. The audience here is targeted and niche.

Now if the Softies really want to go viral, they'd do Rick Rollin' or Girlfriend parodies. "Hey, hey, you, you, I don't like your Macintosh. No way, no way, I think you need a new one. Hey, hey, you, you, I could be your Windows."

Then again, maybe not.

FYI: www.microturfs.org/start

According to this site:

This site is for documenting organizations and individuals who claim an independent opinion when promoting Microsoft products or services, or criticizing competitors, legislation, or policies that challenge Microsoft, but are closely tied to Microsoft.

TK :

the 160gb disk joe is for the entire content of PDC not just windows 7. hey philosopher, just a quick note, nobody on THIS site gives a fuck about you and your microturfs site. You are just an irreleveant piece of microturd, and need to know your role- which is nothing lol.

Goblin :

@TK

I beg to differ, I do value the opinion of Philosopher. What I dont value is people with little knowledge of a subject (like you TK) who feel the need to use vulgarity, because they dont have the mental capacity to make a worthwhile contribution.

TK, I made a point of visiting microturfs (as anything someone like you doesnt like, must be ok) I hope others do the same.

TK, hey "just a quick note". You need to know YOUR role (that sounds very much like a famous WWE wrestlers catchphrase) your opinion on MS related discussion is worthless and your vulgar delivery just shows you up for the braindead goldfish you are.

Is the message "Microsoft Stifles Creativity"? I just don't get it.

puppet :

I don't know about a sense of humor, but one thing I will tell you. Is that M$ better fix their Windows software, and make it usable and as malware free as alternative Operating Systems, before its too late.

Apple could double market share on Microsoft defections

http://www.macworld.com/article/50360/2006/04/applebrand.html

Quote from the link; "Consumers are so distrustful of Microsoft that Apple could double its market share due to defections from the Windows operating system, a report by market analysis firm Forrester Research says.

Over all, only Apple and Tivo saw their brand trust rise in the last two years, according to the report. The final tally saw Bose, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Panasonic and Sony earn the highest marks, while Microsoft, Gateway and LG ranked lowest.

The low scores for Microsoft could mean good news for Apple as consumers showed their distrust of the Redmond-based software-giant."

Yes, me too!

Thanks for the information, Philosopher. A few more names need to be added to that list like Andre's. TK is just most likely just his evil troll like flip side. And one wonders if indeed as Margo said, if Doctor Doug's name should not be there as well.
