Ed Black Gets Flack

We were a bit suspicious regarding the circumstances behind Microsoft's recent pay-off of its long-time nemesis, the Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA). And, it turns out, with good reason. Several published reports claim that one-time Microsoft critic and CCIA chief Ed Black has pocketed a hefty percentage of the $20 million that Microsoft doled out to the CCIA in order to get the organization to cease its antitrust lobbying efforts against the company. Surprisingly, the CCIA isn't going to withdraw evidence against Microsoft that it already submitted in the EU vs. Microsoft antitrust case.

Come on, MJ! You didn't really believe that Black was putting on the rabid dog act because he really was some great defender of the unwashed, oppressed masses of abused PC users....did you? He's just like everyone else who jumps on the lawsuit money wagon whenever they see it leaving the station. It sure would be refreshing to see you treat this type of behavior with the same degree of acerbic commentary you use when “reporting” on the abuses of companies like MS. Sure, it makes for good copy when people like Black proclaim to be Industry Spokespersons decrying the dastardly deeds of evil monopolists, but when it turns out that they are just in it for the money, the copy seems to get buried somewhere well below the fold in verbiage that is less than acerbic.
