Microsoft temp worker Michael Hanscom is now known as the first Microsoft employee to lose his job over his blog. But Hanscom says he doesn't believe it was the act of blogging, per se, that led to his firing. Instead, the posting of a photo to his self-hosted blog could have been seen as a security breach was what most likely resulted in his dismissal, Hanscom says. Though a number of posters have claimed Hanscom was let go because he revealed that Microsoft is using Apple G5s (rather than Windows-based machines) in its print shop, Hanscom doesn't cotton to that theory. The firing came at an unfortunate time, however, with Microsoft attempting to build up the Windows community by encouraging its own employees, as well as others working with its products to blog.
