Goodbye, 'Aurora.' We Hardly Knew You

WinInfo is reporting that Microsoft has nixed plans for a small Windows Media Player 11 update code-named "Aurora" and is instead making a more major WMP 11 release, code-named "Polaris," its new focus. The new target for WMP11 is "early 2006," but the player will be back-ported to Windows XP, the WinInfo folks are claiming. If true, Polaris joins a growing family of Longhorn technologies that are finding their way onto older Windows releases. |
