Google and AOL: New IM Buddies
|
While a lot of the coverage on the Google/AOL/Microsoft wheeling and dealing has focused on AOL's decision to stick with Google search, that's not the only common ground between AOL and Google. The pair also has agreed to allow users of Google's Google Talk instant-messaging system to communicate with AOL's AIM. While the two IM networks won't actually be interconnected (Google Talk users will need to sign up for an AIM account and screen name), the deal is sure to challenge Microsoft, which continues to maintain three different IM clients (Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger; Windows Messenger; and Office Communicator). |
