Longhorn Cuts: The Morning After

The meaning of Microsoft's Longhorn cuts, announced Friday, is just starting to sink in on Monday. Longhorn evangelist Robert Scoble has some good links and interesting observations on what led up to Microsoft's ultimate decision to ax WinFS and port Avalon to older versions of Windows. Scoble's most telling line: "Longhorn's Avalon was going to require a beefy graphic processor (look at all the demo machines, we barely could get the latest builds to run on a top-of-the-line Alienware machine)" We reported on Longhorn's hefty hardware requirements earlier this year, but Microsoft wouldn't comment on the specs we got.
