Lots of folks are pointing to Longhorn technical evangelist Jeremy Mazner's blog entry about Longhorn cuts, in light of last week's stories on how Microsoft is fine-tuning Longhorn to try to get it out the door. Mazner says: "WinFS hasn't been cut. WinFS hasn't even really been scoped back." But he then goes on to show that it has, in fact, been trimmed back. Bottom line: We are sticking with what we said last week, Microsoft is following its usual course and chopping features from Windows in order to finally ship it. WinFS will be in the product, but in a slimmed-down form. And note that there's still no official word yet on what (if anything) has been trimmed from Avalon and Indigo.
