Microsoft Hints at New Windows Live Services
|
From Microsoft Watch: The most interesting bit in Bill Gates' Consumer Electronics Show keynote (from a pure news perspective) were some of the hints dropped about forthcoming Windows Live services. Not many concrete details, but it sounds like there are lots more Live services on the drawing board than many think. |

Although we already knew about these services, Windows Live Expo and Windows Live Domains are now listed off of the Windows Live Ideas page. I tested out Windows Live Domains this evening and was disappointed that when configured, you are forced to use Hotmail instead of the updated Windows Live Mail system. Bill Gates' CES 2006 speech was basically the same one (with modifications) that he has given for 15 years at CES and COMDEX. Essentially he has an ability to get the audience excited about upcoming products or "features" that upon delivery are either mundane or aren't as useful as imagined. Microsoft Live and Windows Vista just are not as exciting or alluring as Gates makes them out to be. Gates may smirk at Google being the current darling of the media, but at least Google has delivered some interesting and well designed products in the last two years, at essentially no cost to consumers. It has become a standard shabby practice on Gates part to promise the delivery of a steak but to ultimately show up with a McDonald's hamburger.
