Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 Details Begin to Leak

Since it first revealed a month ago that it was pulling a U-turn by releasing a new version of Internet Explorer independent of Longhorn, Microsoft has been unwilling to share many particulars about its forthcoming browser.

Will Internet Explorer (IE) 7.0 have tabs? Will it comply with the Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) 2.0 standard? Exactly how will it make browsing more secure? Will it ship in 2005?

Microsoft's answers? No comment.

Microsoft has shared publicly that IE 7.0 will be focused primarily on improving security. Company officials said recently that Microsoft plans to make IE 7.0 available to Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and Windows XP Professional x64 users. A first beta of IE 7.0 is due out this summer.

But Microsoft is sharing quite a bit more IE 7.0 specifics privately with key partners, sources who requested anonymity claim.

Sources say that IE 7.0 – which is code-named "Rincon," they hear – will be a tabbed browser.

IE 7.0 will feature international domain name (IDN) support; transparent Portable Network Graphics (PNG) support, which will allow for the display of overlayed images in the browser; and new functionality that will simplify printing from inside IE 7.0, partner sources said. The new browser also will likely include a built-in news aggregator.

(Coincidentally, or perhaps not, MSN just began testing a new Microsoft-developed RSS aggregator.)

Among the myriad security enhancements Microsoft is expecting to include in IE 7.0, according to partner sources:

  • reduced privilege mode becomes the default;
  • no cross-domain scripting and/or scripting access;
  • improved Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) user interface;
  • possible integration between IE 7.0 and Microsoft's Windows anti-spyware service, which currently is in beta.

Partner sources say Microsoft is wavering on the extent to which it plans to support CSS2 with IE 7.0. Developers have been clamoring for Microsoft to update its CSS support to support the latest W3C standards for years. But Microsoft is leaning toward adding some additional CSS2 support to IE 7.0, but not embracing the standard in its entirety, partners say.

When I had my old computer, I tried to download IE 5.5. (a few years ago, folks) and when I restarted my computer I could not even make it to the desktop. My system was messed up.

i don't understand what the problem is with downloading explorer 7 to windows or microsoft internet explorer????

    Tran Thuong :

I am very interested in using IE7, its screen and option are very friendly and favourable for users. But when I open a new link in the current window, in stead of appearing in a new tab as Firefox, it will be appeared in a new window. That makes lots of IE windows on the taskbar so it is inconvenient management them.

Does the IE7 has a option as Firefox which allow me open a new link in another tab in the current window? Please help me!

    Vivian :

I downloaded IE7 and I am having some problems. My default email is Outlook Express. We are DSL and I never had a problem. Since downloaded IE7 I can not open links to to me in email the system hangs up! No is not my system. It has something to do with IE7.
Guess what folks we are doing the research and testing for them.....guess what else. I don not like it!
I think you need to go back to the drawing board on this one. Thanks

    Hanumath :

    hi,

Regarding popup blockers. Presently for old application we are using internet explorer version6.0. popup blockers need to be turned off when using Internet Exploere version6.0. there is problem when user used by internet explorer7.0. For new application will need to be entered into the Trusted Sites section because of having two or more pop-ups (when creating reports), which IE7 is not allowing (it allows only one pop-up).

    Just upgraded to DSL.
Was prompted by ISP to download IE7 so I did.

Had to system restore to get the awful IE7 off my computer! Horrible. When turning on my computer would get fatal error blue screen. Safemode and then did system restore. Nightmare!!!

IE 7.0 has just compounded the problems already inherent in the previous version. Doesn't anyone test drive this stuff before they send it into the traffic?

Updated to internet explorer 7.0 from 6.0 and very sorry I did. Tried everything to uninstall to get the 6.0 back and it won't help. Even tried the uninstaller tool kit and still nothing. It seems to be possessed. How do I get back to 6.0? Shouldn't put upgrades not tested!!! I'm glad I have aol to use. They have their own browser.

    Peter 67 :

IE7 Sucks. It came through with automatic updates, took two hours to download even with broadband. Crashed the computer (a modern top of the range Dell with Windows XP). Totally messed up Outlook Express 6 with irritating error messages on sending messages but no other obvious issues. Totally changed the appearance of the Home Page with all kinds of things I didn't want and none of the things I use all the time. Fortunately System Restore in XP overcame all the issues so now I am happy again with IE 6 and automatic updates turned off. But, I guess this could leave me with a vulnerability.

I'm totally teed off with Microsoft's approach - just creating problems to milk the cash cow and totally ignoring the customers and customer choice.

After installing IE 7, my browser could not connect to the internet, I had error warnings after reboot, and I couldn't close the browser without ctrl/alt/del.

Uninstalled it via control panel, and now everything is much better.

My conclusion...it's more flakey garbage. Don't download it for another 6 to 12 months.

I downloaded IE 7 from a cable connection- no probs with my laptop yet. For those with slow connections, order a cd with IE7 and save hassles. For those using third party sw to browse, IE7 will not operate with unknown sw by default, go to the help menu to change settings. IE 7 is for security and that means user freedom takes a dive.

Last night I downloaded and installed Internet Explorer 7. It took quite awhile to complete. I thought it would be something good. It turned out I could not get my mail from MSN and I could not open my virus protector. The bottom line is it messed my computer up. I couldn't wait to go to the control panel and uninstall it. After that was done all was OK. They need to go back to the drawing board on this one.

    Joe R. Parker :

I recently downloaded IE 7 at the prompting of Microsoft Automatic Updates, but the installation went on forever without ever being completed (I have a DSL connection). Microsoft Support led me to an article, id # 926716, which suggests skipping the steps which install the updates and the Malicious Software Removal Tool, as this is the point where the installation repeatedly hangs. Can this be a good idea? Is there any way to remove the uninstalled downloaded IE 7? It isn't causing any apparent problems, but after reading of all the problems caused by IE 7, I would prefer to remove it from my computer for now.

    Shirley Scharf :

This sounds like deja vu all over again!! I downloaded it and now I cannot get my homepage. I believe I saw it once. A friend told me that I wouldn't like this but I was hoodwinked into thinking I should upgrade. Now how do I get rid of it??? Explorer 7 that is! Shirley Scharf

    Katz :

A couple of days ago I downloaded IE7 through Automatic Update. The install went quickly (T1 Lan Internet access) and was without problem. Now the fun begins... The program has "stopped responding" several times (Windws XP Pro), it locks up, freezes etc. It seems typical of Microsoft to push out bloatware that is just good enough. Not great software (I can't recall ever installing a "great piece of software from Microsoft) but just good enough. Why do they even bother?

    Mike :

Downloaded by running through the Update. I then re-booted as instructed. My first observation was that my Default Page had chamged. I typed in another URL and it opened a new window, and another, and another until my PC ground to a hsalt! The behaviour is totally wierd - I can only go to my Default Page and sub-pages therein. I can change my Default Page though. After checking my Security Settings a number of times I gave up and I went back to IE6. That is now well messed up as well. Microsoft have a dominant market position but rubbish like this is just abusing it. Linux beckons...

    Wayne :

    I SUCKS BIG TIME...

    Alex :

I see tht everyone seems to be havina a miserable time with IE7 - same here. Can anyone tell me how to go back to IE6, which worked reasobably well?

    bob :

What a piece of garbage. Big mistake to say yes to the upgrade. What a bad design. Talk about user unfriendly!! After install, IE7 crashed everytime I actually tried to use it. Downgraded to IE6 pronto, but am still primarily using Firefox.

    daweb :

After several hours of trying to connect to the Internet, even manually adding in DNS addresses I finally gave up and was ready to reinstall IE6 via a Microsoft Disk I ordered and received two years ago. After removing IE 7 using the remove software option under the Control Panel, IE 6 was totally restored by this action without a reinstall via a disk, and appears to be fully functional with no changes, as it was yesterday. I am running XP (with SP2)with all the latest update (off course without IE 7)

    Glenn :

IE 7.0 looks good. However, it freezes (locks) up some of the time when I try to open up another site. The hour glass just continues to run, and I get a Not Responding messasge in the tool bar window. Trying to get an answer from MS is impossible. They apparently want to charge you to tell them that there is a problem. I have downloaded all the updates, and still the same problem. It does not happen all the time. It is an intermittent problem. Anyone have any suggestions or solutions? I need HELP!!!

    ATMGuru59 :

Installed IE7 and my DSL connection went into the toilet. Have to regress to dial-up to continue internet life. What really burns me is that I called Microsoft for tech support and they wanted to charge me for a phone assist. I opted for help through the internet, instead. Since we are doing the beta testing for Microsoft IE7, we should sent Mr. Gates a hefty bill for our debugging services. Until then it's dial up. Slow and steady wins the race.

Download new internet explorer via automatic downloads and everthing went hay wire. can't open page errors and I tried to do a system restore but it still doesn't work right. Barely able to get to this page. I want to be able to search the internet again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    bird onion :

how do I get this IE 7.0 out of my computer
    it sucks

    Matthew B :

Hi Ellie. Maybe you've recently cleaned your hard drive? Every time I add a new site to my favourites, the appropriate icon appears in the list alongside it. But I run disk cleanup every week, and the icon disappears. I just assume it's on a temporary file somewhere that gets deleted.
Irritating, isn't it, but not the end of the world.
At least I've decided not to install IE 7 until the problems are sorted...

    Carl :

IE7 seems to be a resorce hog! I have DSL connection and was very pleased with the speed of my internet browsing until I downloaded IE7. It's not the download speed that's the problem, it's the browser using up too many resorces trying to do too much at one time? Until the kinks are gone, I don't want it.
I used System Restore to go back a day to get rid of the changes from IE7. Microsoft did something right with System Restore.

    Frank :

Add me to the list of people who tried IE7 for a few minutes, realized it was junk and removed it.

Microsoft still does not "get it", apparently...

I just downloaded the new IE 7.0 and am very pleased. It even kept all of my previous setting and interfaced the google toolbar in it with the same settings I had before as well. Very user-friendly, no problems as of yet.

    pam callaway :

Downloaded ie7 yesterday, still trying to get rid of it. 1. won't allow my mcafee to scan 2. error message every time I try to acess my software 3.my favorites wont connect 4. word doesnt work properly....good grief, wish I had looked here firswt! how do I delete this monster!

    Tom :

Yes Major issues with Explorer 7, do not download until they have the bugs fixed. Caused major problems with my computer, removed it and all is well again. We couldn't use the flash player or virtually any ad-ons from adobe, and alot of safe web pages would not completely download. We actually had some spyware show up too! Trust me, stay with 6 for now.

    joe :

I upgraded to ie7 and what a piece of junk. When i click on an icon it seems like forever before any action to open webpage and then i have to wait and wait while it tells me it is "detecting proxy settings". I have many hanging applications, screen freezing and computer crashes since i got into this mess. I now want to go back to ie6. Any thing with a name of Yahoo and Microsoft combined is certainly guranteed to be a piece of junk.

    JG :

IE 7 sucks. I've uninstalled it and will switch to Firefox. Do not let this piece of crap install on your computer.

    drew :

IE7 intermittently locks up immediately after starting up the application. When this happens, I could only resume work by killing the "Not Responding" app in the Windows Task Manager and then starting IE7 again. Sometimes I had to repeat this 5-6 times for IE7 to run. Occasionally I would see 2 copies of the IE7 app started in the Task Manager even though I only started it once.

This is too much of a hassle and a lot of waste of time at this point. Unistalled the app by removing it in the Add/Remove Progs section and it automatically reverted back to IE6. All is well. I will wait until Microsoft fixes the IE7 bugs and then I may try again...

    Dave :

Installed IE7 twice. I like the new user interface but on each occasion I discovered that attached printers became unavailable (HP and Epson) because files could not be located. On the first occasion the Master File Table was corrupted (message : C:\$mft is corrupt), and CHKDSK ran on start up but did not restore file. The situation quickly deteriorated and then became system critical. On both occasions I was forced to run recovery console and chkdsk C: /R to restore system. On the second occasion there was no error message about MFT but the printer error was solved by running chkdsk from recovery console. I guess the MFT was corrupt. This software really stinks, it is no good putting out release notes when you are offering free updates through windows XP because it is too bloody late when it is installed.

    Tom McCauley :

Works on one of my computers, but crashes on the other when you try to close the browser.

    Theresa :

After downloading the IE7, I can't open some links and even can't get pop up windows. I really don't think IE7 function as good as IE6. I'm expecting a better IE7.

    Ian :

I downloaded IE 7 after a prompt from automatic updates. After reboot I could not connect to the internet as there was no option to enter my password. Had to uninstall it and this worked ok but I now have to click on user pasword before Windows loads and I had to make other adjustments to my internet settings like sites no longer automatically remembered me. I say steer clear until these issues are sorted, sticking with IE 6 as long as it is supported.

    castrate bill gates :

    ie 7 is pure bullshit

    Suo :

Ever since I downloaded IE 7, I've been having problems. Everytime I close out my tabs, IE crashes on me. I don't have the patience for this kind of silliness. I just recently downloaded FireFox 2.0, much happier now.

Downloaded IE 7.0 2 days ago. Could not access my wireless. Tried uninstalling. What a mess. (What's with the crappy toolbar that cannot be deleted?)

Had to spen $35 on the local compputer guy to come fix it before Thanksgiving break. It was money well spent. He says he's been doing the same thing all week.

I have warned friends and coworkers NOT to install 7.0. Now I am warning who ever reads this note. DON'T DO IT!!!!

I got IE7 by running Windows Update Manually (automatic updates seemed late this month). Installed OK, but had a conflict with my 4 year old Logitech mouse. Scrolling wheel caused erratic movement of screen. Had to download latest driver from Logitech. Now OK. I think IE7 is pretty good.

    Tom W :

IE 7 automatically downloaded and installed without warning on my Home PC running XP Pro. My wife called me in a panic because of problems with the browser. Was able to uninstall through the Crtl Panel and go back to 6.0. Maybe Firefox is the answer. Turned off automatic updates to prevent this happening again. Typical Microsoft -- put out a product with bugs galore. Fortunately, I am still running Win 2000 Professional on my laptop and was not in line for the "gratis" upgrade from MS.

    Mary :

DON'T DOWNLOAD IE7!!! Make sure you choose the options in your next IE update!!!

WE NEED TO FILE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST BILL GATES & MICROSOFT!!!

I'm screwed because I didn't. I installed IE7, tried & hated it then deleted via the control panel, and turned off the computer for the night. When I signed on this morning to do some Christmas shopping I was unable to do anything. Even now I'm typing a few words and IE opens empty/blank Microsoft windows, and won't stay on the page. There are errors opening up all over the place. I've read that in some cases, those who use Google, that as IE 7 downloads it wipes out all of your personal IE6 info and there is no going back, so you're forced to use IE7. The problem is that I don't want to use this piece of shit IE7 browser!!!!!! Now I've lost out on the sales I rely on to do my Christmas shopping. I understand this is no problem for Bill "Fucking Greedy Ass Bastard Grinch" Gates, who must control the internet or else!!! But it's a huge problem for me, especially since this came installed as an update and I wasn't given an option here. Now here I sit, Thanksgiving Day, and instead of cooking & shopping in between, I'm trying to fix my computer. I'm sick of this, and once I get everything together I'm switching to another browser. Happy Fucking Holidays Bill "Fucking Greedy Ass Bastard Grinch" Gates, and thanks alot! I'm gone Gates and I hope I take alot of people who have fueled your fortune with me!!! Firefox, here I come!!

    Greg :

I automatically downloaded IE 7.0 onto my new clean laptop. Then when running the laptop without an internet connection in place, IE 7.0 continuously opens a new window trying to connect. It can get upwards of 50 new windows opening. Any idea how to fix this??

    the_pipe :

The internet explorer 7 is a piece of shit I'm intaled and have uninstaled again because have more problems than 6 is realy piece of crab don't install in your computers people I don't recommend.

    Cathy :

IE7 causes computer problems. NON-RESPONDING ERRORS galore!!! Don't download IE7. What a mess! Automatic update/upgrade notice sent to me. Major problems when closing or shutting down - goes to a blank page and freezes my computer every single time. IE7 needs repair work!!! Stick with what you have until Microsoft fixes the mess they created! My laptop was working great but now browsing is a problem and shutting down is a problem.

I had no problems on my computer other than my toolbars getting mixed up. After getting that worked out I like the browser a lot.

Two of my customers have lost their internet after installing IE 7. I just remove it because no one seems to know why it's killing their internet connections.

    Mary :

I have problems scanning with Hp All in one. Other functions are fine. The Hp scanner said I had critical updates, so I loaded them. Still no help. If I uninstall IE 7 how do I get back IE 6?
Or will I mess things up further

    Martin Johnston :

This has to be the biggest heap of crap that MS has come up with - IE7 seems to be trying to tie users even closer into MS products - yet seem to forget that people liked IE6 because it was reasonbly user-friendly - IE7 is as useful as a chocolate teaspoon.

    Martin Johnston :

How anyone thinks this is user-friendly is beyond me - give me a menu and not this icon shit that takes ages to load - favourites is a joke.

    Brawls :

Installed 7.0 last night. The look is O.K. but wasn't happy with the way the page(s) scrolled. Definitely DIDN'T scroll as smoothly as with previous versions. That alone was enough for me to revert back to 6.0. Everything else seemed to work without a hitch, but again - scrolling with the mouse wheel sucked. It was jumpy and extremely annoying at the end of... oh 30-40 seconds! To remove (for those not in the know), go to Start/Settings/ControlPanel/ Add Remove Programs... and find it just above the Windows XP Software Updates files. Highlight it and clic Change/Remove. Good luck.

    Brian :

Got IE7 up and somewhat running had to upgrade the flash player to get utube vidio to work still I can not get ie7 to display mpeg or quicktime vidio nasa soho website

    Carrie :

I installed IE 7 and my computer will no longer connect to the internet. It simply comes up with the IE screen and says "connecting..." It is not a connectivity problem, as I can get through with Mozilla Firefox. When I try to pull up anything else after clicking to launch IE 7, the program screens all freeze in layers. I cannot even close it by using Control Alt Delete. Help! Can I get IE 6 back??

    Harry :

I installed IE 7 through automatic updates, it installed ok and functioned ok, but I constantly got the same corrupt file warning for c:\$mfft everyone else is complaining about. After several re-boots and running chkdsk, my system still gave the same error. Each time I rebooted my system went through the same checkdisk scan. Out of desperation I uninstalled ie 7 via control panel add/remove programs. No more problems. Think I'll hold off for now trying again.

    gordon :

This is a rubbish system. Downloaded IE7 today - it's unable to release incoming emails. Absolutely maddening. How do I get out of it?

    gordon :

Downloaded IE7 today - with some reluctance. It's a rubbish system. Refuses to release incoming emails. How do I get out of it? Avoid installing at all costs!

    darell :

IE7 works fine, not a problem, so go figure, or should i say reconfigure

    Spike :

Downloaded and installed IE7 fine...Problem is, it sucks! I'm definitely going back to IE6.

    darell :

funny , people said that ie6 sucks, so they are going back to ie5 or ie1,LOL, maybe if some comps wernt in such a mess, ie7 would run ok.

    Richard :

I installed IE7 on my laptop a month ago and have had no problems up until today. Sometimes when I try to quit, it refuses to go. I found by experiment that minimising and maximising and then quitting again does the trick. I received a message to send a crash report to MS which I did. Then it told me that there were updates which might solve the problem. I have received no automatic update notification and when I went to MS Update site, and clicked on the "Recommended" buton the little bars went round and round for 10 minutes without anything happening. Don't know if it was just very busy but it is all very frustrating. As you say, why dont they test the stuff before sending it out?

downloaded IE 7 after prompts. Absolute nightmare. Could'nt see anything on the web but jumbled code. and Times New Roman font. Advice prompts from Microsoft are 'Make sure your typing is correct' or, 'You may have no internet connection' or'try refresh button' My advice to them ' Make sure you test this crap before wasting everybodys time'
Go to Add and remove programs. Click uninstall IE 7 Restart computer and you should be back to IE6.

I also lost internet connection through my wireless after installing IE 7. I will attempt to uninstall it and go back to IE 6 or go with Firefox instead

I Down loaded IE7 yesterday and it has messed up my DSL connection. I thought there was something wrong with my phone line as the ADSL light just keeps flashing on the modem and the connection works, then drops, then works again. After reading this, I wish I had looked into this abit before installing IE7, I will do an add & remove on it's ass this weekend when I am home again.

WARNING; DO NOT UPGRADE TO INTERNET EXPLORER 7.0; IT IS IRREVERSIBLE ! I have spend two days now trying to get rid of 7.0 because Skype won't work with it and it freezes up several programs I use that it trys to preempt. It has a remove option in Add/remove programs but it doesn't get removed and screws up you entire system. I had to do an entire restore just to get back to 6.0 and now I'm thinking I better go to some other browser.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanx & Aloha, Johnny

I downloaded IE7 and my computer crashed. My Broadband connection disappeared along with my homepage. I spent a couple of hours trying to uninstall IE7 , but it still remained on my computer. In the end, I went to an earlier restore point on my Windows XP and that solved the problem. My nightmare is over. I am glad that I saw this review site. I thought it was just me that was having this problem. I am now back with IE6 and thats where I am staying until Microsoft sort this problem out.

I am glad that I found this website and see that the problems that I encountered happend to a lot of Xp users. I have spent two days tryIng to get IE 7.0 to work on my computer. I have installed and uninstalled it 4-5 times. Here are some of the problems that I occurred: would not start my DSL connection and if I started the connection manually and then opened the browser it would just spin and give a message of "Connecting" but nothing would happen. It would not let me use me weather.com desktop. I never did get to see the browser work. My advise is to stay away from this update. Microsoft has a lot more work that needs to be done to make this program usable. Thank God for Norton Go Back 4.0. I was able to reset my system to before I ever though of trying this failure of a program. I am back to using IE 6.0 and am very happy. USERS BE WARE BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE!!!

    Charlie :

This is the poorest looking version of explorer, you can't move the tool bars where you want them & icons are all over the place. I don't have time to look for what I want. Uninstalling. Microsoft really needs to go back to the drawing board on this one.

    louster :

I downloaded IE7 at work and have not had any problems with it. I kind of liked the way it looked and I was going to start using it at home but I think I am going to wait a little while after reading about some of problems people are having.

Total time to install IE7 here (after clicking "Install Now" from Windows Update Custom with only this one update selected) was less than 5 minutes including the reboot. I have read every single post you guys have made here and tested most of them after the install and I can not repeat any of the errors you guys are reporting. It looks different and nothing is laid out like it was in 6.0, but like it overall after spending some time to get used to it. Some of you reported issues with the standard behaviors of 7.0, but I have found that in many cases you can change these behaviors in the Tools/Internet Options area. I am a third party software developer, and I'm leaving it installed.

    Prakash :

I was prompted to install IE7 4days ago. Since then everytime I shutdown my computer a blue screen comes towards the end it automatically starts up again. Its really pissing me off. Is there a solution to this problem. If none then I would like to know how I can safely roll back to IE6. My suggestion to fellows being prompted by the update software, please don't touch upgrade button. It would solve so many nightmares for you.

    Sheila Good :

I do not like EI 7 at all, I like lines to separate my searches, and now every time I type in web address it states it can not find and my computer is working right via other services and software, I have to refresh about 4 - 6 times before a webpage comes up. I make me feel I have dial-up service that I have T1. Stop giving out the EI 7!

IE 7 is utterly awful, every time i start it flashes up a big "YOUR COMPUTER IS AT RISK" screen, and every 20 seconds brings down a little bar saying "Click here to change your security settings!", when i go to MY OWN HOMEPAGE it tells me that the menu i have on it is "unsafe", i add the homepage to my 'safe pages' but when i try to add the hard drive location to the safe pages it wont let me, meaning i get an annoying popup when looking at MY OWN PAGE THAT I MADE offline!. Luckily i use WORD 97 (HAH! whatcha gonna do it about it?) to edit the page, so thats fine. I made an extremely pessimistic series of comics once about what the internet may become by 2014, but never in my darkest fantasies did i realise Microsoft would replace annoying advertising popups with thier OWN annoying popups! (and not properly block the advertising ones anyway into the bargain)

    John :

I downloaded it a few weeks ago and really like it. It has been flawless.I cannot however find a way to save off line web pages to my favorites. Do you know if it is possible?

I didn't notice any problems for awhile until I realized All my audio sounds like chipmunks singing. I tried the fix its on the Windows Media Player troubleshooting with no result. Are Real Player and Media Player fighting? How else could a seeming sound card problem suddenly jump up.

Didn't realize that when I upgraded to 7.0 that it would cause Norton's to have problems and completely change my home page. In addition it removed the padlock for my secure websites. I finally uninstalled 7.0 and now I no longer have the problems I was encountering. Need to test new releases completely before any new products are launched so they work correctly.

    angelsoft :

HAVE TO ADD MY TWO CENTS IN TOO

PLEASE do yourself a favor and DO NOT upgrade to IE7. My PC was doing beautifully (NO PROBLEMS WHAT-SO-EVER) for the past several years, and now after upgrading through Automatic Windows Updates that popped up on my desktop last night. I wished I would have not been such a stupid idiot and did that. As now my PC is a mess! I may have to do a complete Windows XP restore from scratch. And we all know how time consuming that will be, but who cares, right, when you have the money rolling into your pocket from the general public.

I uninstalled it through control panel like everyone else but am still having crashes and "Not Responding" messages although they are not as frequent, only time will tell in the next few days. It keeps knocking out my HP printer. And when I can't get the task manager to 'end
task(s)' that are not responding then it crashes or goes to the beautiful blue screen we've all grown to dread to see.

I don't know what the heck happened, but this thing acts like a virus would do. Where you can't even use your mouse to click on anything. Or it does this crazy drag effect across the screen when you try to move an open window.

I tell ya I will NEVER again trust an Automatic Windows Update again from Microsoft in regards to an IE update. Thanks a million Microsoft for ruining my trust in you guys. My heart goes out to those who are having their businesses ruined because of this nonsense. Sometimes time is money too, which I don't have much of wasting it trying to repair my PC.

So again, DON'T DO IT!!! Spare yourself from the grief if you value your time and business.

A sudden conflict on my wife's computer after loading IE 7.0; some e-mails come through in Outlook, but are blank, others come through OK. Some e-mails in AOL (same computer) don't come through at all; some have parts missing. AOL support insisted it was a Windows problem. Windows support had me remove IE 7.0; I not only did that, but I also did a system restore back a whole month. No solution. Contacted AOL support again; they insisted it must be a virus or spyware. Oh, just to be certain, I removed Norton and installed AVG freeware anti-virus, Windows Defender, and Spyware Doctor. Removed all spyware--still no solution. Same problem. I can get all the same e-mails on my own computer without any problems--they just don't come through on my wife's computer.

    Sharen :

My husband downloaded the software two night's ago. I get on the PC this morning and I can't read any of my emails. I get Script Error's and it completely freezes. I think it is kind of funny that I am able to come here to help desk and read with no warnings and such. I truly believe that what ever the errors are that is causing so much trouble with the software was not thought through entirely before revealing to the public for downloading. In many cases such as this I don't think it was properly retested on all aspects. Microsoft needs to retest their software better. I am waiting for this to hit big on the Newss in the near future unless it has already. Funny how Giant Incorporation such as Microsoft messes up with no apologies to the consumer. Sheesh, I am one frustrated person among a thousand.

I downloaded IE 7 , a few days ago and everything on my computer slowed down and kept on freezing .

I join the dissatisfied IE7 downloaders. I also downloaded it at the prompt of MS updates. Fortunately for me I used only one of two computers on my DSL connection to try it out. 1)it took over an hour to load. I should have known then there was a problem, it's only a 30 MB program. 2) after rebooting could no longer connect to DSL 3) Lost control over Windows completely 4) Could not even shut down with Task Manager. Had to do a hard reboot but then could not access START. FINALLY was able to click on C:Drive ICON thankfully I had a shortcut on my desktop. I finally reached ADD/REMOVE and uninstalled from the computer but I suspect it is still haunting my computer b/c I still cannot access internet. Will try a system restore tomorrow and hope I can correct all problems. This whole ordeal has taken all evening and wore me out. Please take heed all who come here DO NOT LOAD THIS GARBAGE ON YOUR SYSTEM!!!

    Guillermo :

Installed IE7, had no problems installing it and browsing a few websites. But when I tried to test my web application, my drop down menus no longer work, it now freezes the browser if I select something from the drop down menu. The browser unfreezes if I open up a separate browser session, but it freezes again if I again select something from the drop down menu. Is anyone else having the same issues?

    CONCULUSIONS

I would not use IE7 until i really have to.
is it still an alpha version it certainly behave like one

    James Gunn :

I downloaded IE7 because although I like many Firefox features (eg tabs), it isn't compatible with a particular tool I need for work. "Unfortunately" or should I say "predictably for a new Microsoft product" various "undocumented features" appeared such as Wndows Explorer refused to run and within 48 hours I have been forced into a system reload.

When will Microsoft learn that this sort of incompetence is what makes everybody loathe them ? I am supposed to be doing chargeable work today, but cannot because my computer is unusable due to another premature release of software from Microsoft. What incompetence ! Have they no pride in their work ? Next time, I'm buying an Apple Mac

    steve :

Sounds like most everyone that has downloaded IE7 has experienced the same issues. It slowed my Dell XPS 410 down to almost a complete halt. I thought for a moment that I was back on a Tandy 1000. Anyway, I deinstalled IE7 and it defaulted back to IE6, life is good once again.

    paul giverny :

IE 7.0 was downloaded on my computer (running XP with a DSL connection), but, fortunately (based on all the above complaints), the installation would never finish. The download does not SEEM to be causing any problems, but is there a way to eliminate it from my computer even though it hasn't been installed? Automatic Updates keeps prompting me to finsh the installation, which I have no intention of doing. Would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks, Joe

Now today I got again(second chance) , an I am going to try to keep it for 2 weeks or so. The computer has crashed once so far. I also noticed that the computer is taking a lot longer to dowload than before, any ideas to make it faster and to get rid of so many crashes?. I also got from google something called skype, that it kicks automatically after the computer stars, I tried getting rid of it (from the tab, not the whole thing)but nothing works, any ideas?

I just updated from IE6 to IE7 and this has totally stuffed up my access to my Microsoft Outlook program - cannot access it... am told to reinstall the program!! The particular data file it is missing (driver: Data1) is available on my XP program CD but for some reason will not recognise this disk). So, I am going to offload IE7 and reinstall IE6. Most disappointed, and very poor on the creator's part that they have not quality checked IE7's interaction with other Microsoft programs!!

    Beth :

Help! how do I downgrade from IE7 to IE6? My version XP doesn't seem to allow a system restore - or I'm looking in the wrong place - can anyone advise??

Couldn't find IE7 in the Control Panel listing of programs (Add/Delete) so can't remove that way either.
    Any thoughts please??

    Mark :

We downloaded and ran IE 7 for 30 days. Although we weren't too excited about the interface it did work just fine for our department. When we moved all our people over to it last week we've had nothing but huge issues. We did discover that logging in as local administrator makes IE7 work just fine, but after joining our domain the computer freezes (Ie7 sits there saying "connecting" and nothing else).

I had an update warning just about 15 minutes ago.. luckily I had checked the "ask me first" box in my computer properties.. so, it asked me if i wanted to install IE 7.. and I dont know why, but I decided to look from Google (havent done that before!) what it says about IE - and found this site :)
Thank you, you just made my day much better!
Good luck to you all, hope you get your computers fixed.. and I continue browsing in Firefox.

I got the "update" message this morning to download and install IE 7. It sounded like it had good features and would be safe to install. Like some of the recent posts above, I couldn't connect to the internet. It just kept showing the "connecting" message. I would then end up in the task manager and that would lock up. In the end I went to the control panel and found IE7 in the add/remove list. It DID remove it and I was able to get back to the old IE6 which seems, so far, to be running as it did previously. I had cleared out the history, cookies and temp files so I needed to go back to add my UN and PW at the sites I use.
Wish I had seen the posts here before trying it myself.

IE 7 makes internet browsing a mess. 80% of the time, the websites I open look horrible. text on text or images low rez - tables shift left and right. I cant read anything. the other day my friend sent her portfolio site and I couldnt even take a look at it. It was a mess on my IE7 browser! She says she cant even fix it to look OK on IE7... oh, yes and I cant get rid of IE7. Cant even begin to tell you how much IE 7 messed up my computer. I am a graphic and web designer so please dont tell me that I dont know anything about computers or that I should "clean up" my system. IE 7 should have never been released. I've been stuck with this for 2 months. Will take my computer to a guru and pay $150 to be fixed. Guess what - the guy worked for Microsoft.... Happy f!@#ing christmas Mr. Gates. Hope you'll have a miserable one like mine. A lwa suit sounds good to me. I've lost so much time and money. Also half my mind.

I installed IE7 on my main workstation with XP Pro SP2 and DSL and have no problems whatsoever. I have Active-X turned off and locked out, and I turn the phishing garbage off, and it is lightning fast with no issues.

Then I installed it on a family member's system with the same operating system only with a cable modem, and it IE7 cannot view any Web pages. I disabled the firewall... no luck. I can ping. I can connect to it using VNC. It has connectivity, but IE7 can't surf. I uninstalled it until I can figure out why it is happening.

I am also having terrible trouble with IE7. Everytime I close a new window or a tab, the whole Internet shuts down. I don't know what I should do. If I just remove IE7, will it automatically revert back to the previous version? Also, how do I remove it?

    Alfred Jones :

I have mixed feelings about IE7. I installed it one computer and my laptop and it works fine, and with out any problems - although crucially perhaps, I don't run Outlook or Outlook Express on these so have not encountered the e-mail problem that people have been experiencing. However, after installing it to another computer on which I do use Outlook Express to handle e-mail, I could no longer download hotmail. I did a bit of research and discovered the Microsoft update fix, which I installed and then discovered not only could I not download any e-mail, but I could no longer connect to the internet via IE7. Needless to say, system restore removed the offending program and everything works fine again - much to my relief.

    Bryan :

I downloaded IE 7 on my laptop for about 10 minutes. Then I found out that anytime you visit any website that uses a left or right side menu to go through the site, when you click on a link in the menu, IE opens another window behind the one that is already open and there's no way you can read the pages you clicked to open. Now that's brilliant!! Microsoft can keep IE 7. Way too many issues. You may as well just download a few worms and trojans - easier to get rid of.

    HELP ME! :

does anyone know how to remove IE 7.0? and also, how to restore the version before?

    jamie :

Downloaded 7 last night and am downloading it tonight. When I try to get into some of my favourite sites it refuses to let me in. I just get the words "error click here" at the top of the screen" When I try to "click here", the words "click here" jump to a different part of the screen so you have to chase them. When you finally catch them and click, nothing happens anyway. I've seen viruses which are more user friendly. Thanks, Bill. Fortunately I have Opera so at least I can use my computer until I figure out how to get rid of this junk.

    jamie :

Sorry- so I annoyed I made a typo - that should read "I am UNdownloading tonight."

downloaded IE 7 first as a Beta then as an official download on the day it was released. so far i am still getting to grips with the new interface, but i have not had one single problem with the browser.

i have since installed in on another 6 PC's for web development testing etc. and so far out of the 7 PC's in total it has installed on not one of them has caused a problem.

if an update like this is making your PC die, i would suggest a backup of critical data then a complete reinstall, as something you have on there is causing those problems not IE.

    Isaac :

I'm really annoyed, when my computer offered me the download it said - "Blah blah blah, new better quality, blah blah, new updates, tabs etc."
It lied. I'm extremely annoyed as it hasnt gone up in quality, instead the quality has decreased - someone please point out how I uninstall this hunk of rubbish.

    tracy sharpe :

    Joanna :

:( Without going into too much of a rant, can I just say that I really really really dislike IE 7. It lacks many of the features that I grew to love in the old versions (e.g. Quickly emailing a webpage without having to do sign up for Gmail or having a Blog; right-clicking on the 'back' tool bar menu to quickly choose which page to go back to, etc.). I'm fearful of trying to remove it to install an older version as it sounds like it may cause corruption. This new version is really annoying....really...

    Bob :

Like many others here I had Automatic Updates turned on, thinking it was a convenience. True in many cases I guess but not with IE7. (I've turned it off now). After loading IE7 the connectivity with my Netgear router was spotty - worked fine for a bit then would drop. Same situation with Outlook connection to the Internet. Tried a number of fixes but finally decided it had to be IE7. Fortunately Add/Remove Programs appears to have worked for me. I'm back to IE6 and so far so good.... I guess in future I'll apply minor patches without much worry but will wait with major changes until poor fools like me (this time) discover the problems.

    Benji :

Is anyone else having problems with IE7 causing cpu to lock-up? It is getting worse and worse. Alomst everytime I try to play a game are view a video my cpu locks up. It never had the problem before IE7. Any ideas? I was told it was due to the age of my pc, NOT, unless a 5 month old XPS system is already obsolete. I guess I can go back to IE6 are maybe just go to firefox until the problems are fixed.

    BuddyRoo :

Well, as a member of IT at my office, I HAD to load 7.0 a few weeks ago and "test" it.

Let's just say that about EVERY single thing I need to do on a daily basis was hindered. Several applications (especially in SQL/VS 2005) started blowing up. As well as other software applications we use for business.

It screwed up MSOutlook as well.

So...after 2 weeks of that crap, I uninstalled. Well guess what? It doesn't really uninstall EVERYTHING. Still have the stupid error when I close the browser, still some kind of security crap that blocks pop ups within certain software.

IT IS MY OWN PERSONAL NIGHTMARE.

Found this site looking for remedies....

    I'm considering restoring to a previous instance....sigh.

    Gerald Sutliff :

I downloaded IE 7 this a.m. but when I tried it, it crashed. It will open with the "add ons" disabled. To whom do I complain?

    Thank you

    Earl in STL MO. :

Thank God I had the foresight to google i.e.7 before letting auto update to install it. after reading all this I believe that firefox deserves a chance after I google it. Good Luck to all.

    Ray :

I've tried several times on my workhorse Desktop PC and IE7 won't even connect to the internet (something about the winsock connection being changed...) - bugger that! I installed simply by going into the CONTROL PANEL and ADD/REMOVE programs and found WINDOWS INTERNET EXPLORER 7 and clicked on REMOVE! It was the suckiest program install EVER.

    ASG :

I'm a IT Systems Admin dealing with CAD/CAE/UNIX/NAS/Backups/etc...
The only thing I don't manage is our Microsoft and Networking. Thank God!
I couldn't get any straight answers from our MS IT staff, so I googled and came across this site.
    What an eye-opener.
I'm sticking with Firefox and using ie6 when I absolutely need to.
I've shut off automatic updates and was actually surprised to see an option "Don't show this update again". So I opted to check it and it actually didn't show up on my next update.
Well, it has come back again.

For those having problems with ie7 http authentication issues after upgrading, you could try the new MS update that fixes the following: "Install this update to resolve HTTP authentication issues in Windows-based systems that do not appear until Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 is installed."
You can find this under "Software, optional" located in the left pane of the MS updates website. It's update KB904942. Hope it helps.

    mike :

I am having problems with tabs portion of IE7. It seems to be working except for that. Everytime I try to open a tab on my desktop, it crashes IE7. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Also, my office just installed it on our work laptops. It appears to be working fine, but one of my co-workers, her dad owns a business and when IE7.0 was downloaded, it screwed with his Quickbooks file for his business. Not really sure it was IE7 personnally but a computer guy who checked it out said it was.

    Ron :

I recently downloaded IE7 and although it loaded very fast(I have cable)it is a very clumsy program. Every time I jump on the internet it takes at least 5-10 seconds to load when before it was instantanious. The way they have the icon and buttons ect.. arranged is very confusing and I see no improvement over IE6. I removed IE7 through system restore and am back to 6 which works great!

    Nikki :

Everyone keeps saying they uninstalled or downgraded from IE7 back to 6.0 . how do i do this? I'm so confused about how this stupid thing works and very annnoyed at my family for taking it upon themselves to download this crap onto a computer we have to share. Help please!?

    Linda :

I agree with the comments I have read on IE 7.

I see no added value of this new version and in fact have been very frustrated by the inaccessibility of features important to me, such as the 'find' option under the edit drop down menu.

It took me some time to determine that I can access this feature by pushing the ALT button. Does Microsoft poll its customer base (pretty much the whole world) when it makes these kinds of unilateral changes? I guess they don't bother since they know that we have almost no choice.

This experience has pushed me to think harder about completely boycotting use of IE.

    David :

IE7 worked fine for a week or so, then couldn't connect. Found out from earthlink some users were having trouble with IE7, so I went back to IE6, but still couldn't connect. Finally reloaded Windows XP SP1, but still could not connect. Pulled the computer from another room and am using it for internet. I'm thinking I'm going to have clean wipe the hard drive on my other computer to restore connectivity. For those of you who've had no trouble with IE7 yet, that's great, but don't be surprised if it comes back and bites you in the behind.

    Patrick :

To uninstall IE7 and go back to IE6: Go to

START, Settings, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs. Select Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 and click remove. Follow the instructions and re-start. IE6 should be back on your system just as it was before.

    It worked for me!

    DE3159 :

Installed IE7. Almost immediately dissatisfied. Uninstalled through Add/Remove programs. Back to IE6. No browser problems but I cannot send mail with Outlook Express. I can receive, just can't send. Can anyone offer advice? I have uninstalled/re-installed Outlook Express without success.

    mariainuk :

    Hi folks
I downlowded the new e-explorer. The biggest issue is the fact that my security padlock has disappeared. I have another little icon that seems to apear when I am purchasing on the web. I am assuming that this is some kind of secure site equivalent. Can anyone tell me for sure?
    :-)

    Art G. :

I just downloaded and installed IE 7.0.
Went to my website and I couldn't believe my eyes.
IE 7.0 has totally distroyed the way my website is supposed to look.
Won't do me any good to uninstall it because everyone else that is running 7.0 is going to see the site messed up.
I am looking a a lot of time and probably expense to get this where it will look decent again. I am totally disgusted that MS would unleash this on the public without thoroughly checking it out first.
    Unbelievable!
    http://home.bellsouth.net/p/PWP-GunterGenes

    Art G. :

P.S., Some of my links are messed up also.

    sbelf001 :

Tried to install IE7. I agree with most on this page. What a piece of garbage!! Couldn't connect to anything. Quckest way I found to remove it was to go to "Start" then click on "Help and Support" , then click on restore settings. It sent the computer back to just before I tried loading IE 7.

    Paul :

I don't know what your all complaining about?!?

IE7 is fine, not had any problems on any machines i've used it on (about 5 so far) Yeah it takes a bit of learning, but so does any new software!

For those people that are complaining that their own websites aren't displaying properly, thats your own fault for not setting them up to be IE7 ready. I was setting all mine up months ago in preparation for it!

You can't just hide from it, it's going to be here to stay now!

    jw :

My Laptop got automatically updated with IE7, definately would have preferred this to be my decision but anyway, it was fine but quite a overkill. HOWEVER, when my desktop with my dsl connection got automatically updated to ie7, Again, I would have preferred this to be my choice, IE7 does not work with my internet connection.
Nice work Microsoft, you will loose on this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Art G. :

For your information Paul, my computer only recently started asking me to update to IE 7.0. I had been getting all the Windows updates all along. I didn't know IE 7 existed til recently.
I resent the fact that they chose to hi-jack my header. If they were going to do it, they should have at least allowed the whole thing, it shouldn't be all hacked up.
Also, I had created pages with "targets" inserted from other pages. Those are messed up now.
Only way I can see straightening out this mess is to buy a program that does not require you to create a header, I don't write code, well maybe a little.
Looks like the overwhelming oppinion of IE 7 on this website is that it stinks. I certainly agree.
I have 3 computers with Windows and I am thinking now that I should have went with Apple.
There are a lot of us that feel we shouldn't have to jump through hoops just because the Microsoft Gods say we have to.

    cogmangler1812 :

Had IE7 via automatic update. It's rubbish - has disabled my scanner almost completely. Will ask my IT-knowledgeable brother in law to uninstall it & return to IE6, which always seemed to be OK.

I am seriously pissed off with Microsoft.

    Stephen Roberts :

My problems started by downloading Windows Media Player 10.0 which slowed my computer to a crawl. The update to IE 7.0 came on and I figured I would download that as perhaps it would support the other. My download speed is worse than dial up. I thought it was a virus nd tried to update the McAfee but I did not have a valid Dell service tag. So the chatromm McAfee Dell techician had me uninstall the McAfee and reinstall with the CD. But there was a script writing error and the CD froze. So I downloaded the AOL protection package and was virus, adware and spyware free. Then I got on this site and decided to unintall the Media Player and the IE 7.0. I did BUT IT DID NOT INCREASE THE DOWNLOAD SPEED!! What it did do was to uninstall the AOL virus protection and send error messages about McAfee because that is uninstalled now. I am glad I do not work for the post office. What do I do? The $35 for the computer guy sounds like a bargain.

    WB :

Again, I am another unsuspecting person that had IE7.0 via automatically downloaded through a Automatic Update onto my desktop PC. It has totally disabled my desktop's internet and MSN email to where it no longer is accessible. It also has disabled my scanner completely. Also, because of this upgrade of IE7.0. All other programs on my PC, are also running at a turtle's pace. I have been a loyal consumer of MSN.

    What is going on Microsoft?!!

Ok, I know that everyone is entitled to a mistake or 2. I also believe that some how you will come up with a fix and offer it to the public for FREE. To correct any problems that their PC systems have incurred due to unwise distribution of IE7.0 through the Automatic Update. I believe that this is an something that Microsoft would be willing to rectify. Because of the quality standards that you at Microsoft try to manintain and basically stand behind.
I have read through all these issues and the problem seems to be quite simular in some aspect or another. So please, come up with a solution to repair this problem. But for now, since the majority of people are having this crippling effect to their systems. Please take IE 7.0 out of the Automatic Update process until this problem has been resolved.
    Respectfully,
    WB

    Paul :

No one is forcing the majority of you to use Microsoft! There is plenty of Open source stuff out there that does the same thing. If you don't like an MS product, don't use it.
But if you run a website, then you better make sure it works for IE7, becuase i can guarantee that the majority of computer users will stick with it.

    Jane Palmer :

I HATED IE7 and am thrilled to say that it was easy to uninstall using add/remove programmes. No more crashing, slow page downloads and I've got a useful toolbar again.

I just removed the IE7programme and IE6 was still there and it's business as usual.

As the grandmother on the Catherine Tate show would say," IE7 What a load of...!"

I do not like the IE 7.0. Can someone please give me detailed instructions on how to uninstall it. How can I get IE 6.0 back?

    Roy :

I also don't like this version. Please tell me how to get back 6.0

    Roy :

    Problem solved.

    Rita :

I also dislike the new 7.0 In fact, I hate it.
A few people here have said they went back to 6.0......HOW DID YOU DO IT? Can someone post the instructions here?? I would greatly appreciate it, as I am sure some others here would, too. THANKS!!!!

    Mike :

This is the WORST piece of software microsoft has ever released. It's a pile of CRAP!

Am going back to IE 6 if i can work out how!

    victor :

I fell for the auto update ie7 sucks? Thanks for the tip to remove ie7 it works.

    click start
click run and paste or type the exe below
    C:\WINDOWS\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe

    Joe :

I got hit with the same auto download as part of an MS update. Srewed blue and tatooed! I also tried the cntrl panel to remove. IE6 in now messed up. Couldn't even get back onto the net. The G-man broke up Ma Bell, why not MS. They are more of a threat than the phone company. I'd like to stand in line to slap him silly.

I downloaded IE 7.0 into my laptop and now my wireless only has about 1/2 of the range it did when I used IE 6.0! I can't even get and IP address much less ping the gateway from where I did even the night I downloaded the software. I thought I had waited long enough for Microsft to get the major bugs worked out of the system but I guess not. I have instructed all my office staff to NOT download IE 7.0 until I instruct them to do so! After reading this website, I am glad I tried this on my own personal laptop at my residence and not gotten into the CSR's computers where we couldn't get to our billing center and customers records.

I hope this posting keeps someone from prematurly downloading this software. There are some obvious bugs Microsoft still needs to iron out before INSISTING we download this new software!!!

    Roy :

All i did was use Add/Remove Program got rid of IE7 and IE6 was back up.

    Beverly :

So many great suggestions on how to delete IE7, but I am terrified to try. It doesn't show IE6 in Windows Explorer, or in the add/delete program. If I delete IE7, how do I know IE6 still exists and that it will default back to it.
I guess I'm just use to the good old days when I could see the earlier version.

    Vicky :

Almost last but im sure not least.
I think i have a bit different problem, after i open ie7, pags just dont want to connect, after running that application in tools to check connectivity, it will tell me that winsoc catalogue is blocking something, that i should restart the computer, .....can some one help me please, cos this is really annoying .. i already rolled back to 6, and the problem was still there, so im giving 7 a nother chance...

    Sheldon :

I downloaded Internet Explorer 7 on Dec 13 and took it out on Dec 13. I think it is a piece of junk and it screwed up my computer. I found the program in Control Panel -- add/delete programs. If IE7 is any indication I would avoid getting a new computer until 2+ years after Microsoft releases its new improved operating system next year. Since we still are getting fixes for Windows XP years after the release there is no rush to break what works -- most of the time.

    B :

After IE7 downloaded, screen went blue and I lost my desktop. The system would shutdowm and restart.IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

    Lisa :

Hey i downloaded IE7, i havent had near the problems as others seem to have had. My question is when i go to print just a highlighted portion of an email, I dont have the option too, i absolutely have to print the entire document. Does anyone have any input on how i can resolve this issue? Please let me know.

    Anne :

I downloaded IE7 (I got one of those balloon messages to download a crucial update, and BLAM,
I got bamboozled into downloading this browser!)

I hate it. Why mess with a good thing?

Plus, I believe it screwed up my sound files or something because all of a sudden, I can no longer get sound from any DVD. CD's work fine, online video and online music is okay..but no sound from any of my visual media players...And my default video player (SonicCineplayer) suddenly refused to operate altogether.

I deleted the IE 7 program and my computer rolled back to IE 6 right away, all favorites and settings in place...Ahh..home sweet home.

    If it ain't broke........

Ever since I took IE7 out on Dec 13 and returned to IE6 my computer has not been the same. The computer is slower -- even though I am paying for a faster DSL connection. The computer makes mistakes it never made before. It just cut out a music website that I was listening to and closed my internet connection.

    Skidz :

It was 4am, I was half asleep and tricked into an automatic update of IE7. DO NOT TOUCH IT WITH A BARGE POLE.

Just spent a week tuning my system to perfection and I go and install this load of wank!

It is a pile of shit!!

    angelgc86 :

I downloaded Internet Explorer 7 and I've had no problems. So I had no problems with my connection and I have no system crashes.

I don't like the layout but I only like the fact that the pages load faster. I can't find the history page and the buttons are all different so I think that Internet Explorer 6 is better.

    Skylar :

I updated my IE to 7.0 and now every time I exit the window there's a pop-up saying how "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close." And giving the option to send or not send an Error Report. Obviously, something is wrong, so how do I go about fixing this?

If I can't, then how do I revert it back to IE 6.0 without deleting any of my bookmarks? Please help! I don't want this screwing up my entire computer!

    Michelle Fonzi :

I hate it. Looks awful, runs worse. The minute I downloaded it, my computer ran slower, I could no longer view or download TIFFS and certain websites I use at work would not run at all. I have uninstalled it. Using 6.0 and back to normal.
I agree with previous posts - - I wish they would test drive it before they launch it and leave well enough alone.

Downloaded it too. Hate it too. Cant connect at all with ie7. Cant uninstall and go back to 6. help.

Yep I got conned into installing that heap of ****
but you can remove it and you do get ie6 back, I am now off to mozilla to install firefox. Just in case!!!!

    kdtbass :

I downloaded IE7 earlier this week, and have not been able to get on the internet yet. I could not find it in "add/delete", but found out how to find it in hidden files...and hopefully deleted it...but stiil can't get on. The connections say I'm connected, but I get an error saying it can't find server. Something is blocking the connection, and I have spent HOURS trying to find out the problem! DO NOT DOWNLOAD IE7! It is not worth the chance to totally mess up your computer!

    Wayne the pain :

Like the rest of you Cyber-Suckers who downloaded Gates Garbage, I was really pissed. But I simply
downloaded Mozilla Firefox 2, made it my default browser, then uninstalled IE 7.
To install Mozilla Firefox, go to mozilla.org install the free Mozilla Firefox 2.0 download. It will look just like
your old IE 6. with all your favorite junk, almost exactly the way you had it configured on IE. Next I went to
my Control Panel, clicked on the add or remove programs, simply clicked on "REMOVE" Internet Explorer 7.
Poof !!! It was gone..Just like that!!
However you'll notice...IE 7 will be gone, but IE 6 will be back in all it's glory.
Here's the neat part. Remember you have a new default browser called Mozilla Firefox. It's safer from Cyber Hackers,
Bill Gates, and is an excellent Operating System. OR...OR...You can elect to make IE 6 your default browser again,
and go back to "The Way It Was", before this nightmare all started.
By-the-way, I have noticed since I've uninstalled IE 7, I get pop-ups telling me I have two (2) Updates ready for my
computer..The pop-ups don't say what they are....just Updates....hahaha..It's old Bill Gates no less, with his IE 7
Downloads again...Don't be fooled, DO NOT INSTALL, and click the "Do Not Install" box.

    Insane Squirrel :

You folks really need to get away from that microfascist Bill Gates, all microsoft ever puts out is untested crap and viruses. Not to mention that all ms products are targeted by microterrorists!
Use Firefox for a browser, it's soooo much better.

    Shirl :

You are right, ever since I downloaded Internet Explorer 7, I have had nothing but problems. I have a new Dell, never had any problems with it before but now nothing but problems. Is there anyway that I can get out of Internet Explorer 7, I think I'd like to try Firefox. S.T.

I lost my wireless connection after downloading IE 7.

I had to restore my computer to a previous date since I couldn't figure out the problem.

Afterwards I reinstalled critical updates but chose not to install IE7.

    Bob S :

I'm sorry that you all have had such problems with IE 7. I'm not experiencing any of the issues that you are complaining about. I do wish that it had an option to always return to the same tabs when I re-opened the browser, instead of asking me every time I close it.

Otherwise, I've been lucky. I knew there were a lot of complaints about it, and they won't let us install it where I work. But I do like it and I haven't noticed any performance or crashing issues in the couple weeks I've had it installed on my HP laptop. And I'm not huge fan of Microsoft. I've had more than a few problems with many of their products in the past, and I do like Firefox. But I'm a web developer, and since the vast majority of users on the internet continue to use IE, I will continue to use it to test my sites.

Having said all this, you may want to wait until this is more stable before downloading it as I seem to be in the minority with success of the browser. Either that or people that haven't had a problem don't feel the need to post.

    Jon :

IE 7 has ruined my computer. I can't even get to the windows login screen, it just restarts again after I choose anyway to load windows. The thing is, after I installed it, the computer ran fine once, then after I turned it off and back on another time, I could not get pass the screen telling me I had an error! Help!

What a mistake!! I downloaded IE7 when I got an update. IE7 sucks!! It messed up my browsing big time. I am sick of constantly seeing the message "internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close".. It happens every 5 minutes.. and all of the websites are wiped out, not just the one that is having the problem..

I cannot uninstall it, it does not show up in the add or remove programs... Why??

I give up! IE7 is terrible, and you have lost me! I have taken the advice of others and downloaded the Mozilla-Firefox browser.

Lo and behold, all of my problems are gone, pages load quicker, and have yet to have a problem connecting to a website, no sites freezing up, missing, or cannot find. What a slick browser!!

I would recommend Firefox, if you were foolish like myself and downloaded Internet Explorer 7... what a terrible product! way too many bugs!!

IE6 which I had worked just fine.. IE7 pales in comparison to the IE6 it was supposed to replace, and there is no comparison when compared to Mozilla-Firefox, a much superior product..

    bennyz :

Now I found the IE7 in the add/remove programs.. how did I miss it? Now deleting it.. And as someone else said, I will refrain from buying a new computer for awhile until the bugs are worked out on IE7..

    Shawn :

Note to David (12/10/2006) and all others with his problem: the problem appears to be with the Earthlink Toolbar. A few days ago I downloaded (upon the automatic update request) a new add-on or version (don't quite know which) of the Earthlink Toolbar. After that, neither I E6 or I E 7 would connect to the Internet (it encountered a 'problem and had to close' before it was fully opened). Fortunately, I had downloaded the Firefox browser so I still had Internet access. After much effort, I was finally able to delete the entire Earthlink Toolbar (via the Add and ReEmove Programs facility)-- which allowed me to regain access to IE instantly (I E 7, as it turns out, is what I have now thanks to Microsoft basically forcing it on me). So DELETE THE LATEST EARTHLINK TOOLBAR if you have I E. Trying to explain this to EARTHLINK via online chat last night fell on deaf ears. I welcome comments from those Earthlink customers with the same problem because I feel that Earthlink is denying responsibility for a problem that THEY are causing....

After installing IE7, I could not view DVDs, experienced video stream disruption, etc. I also did not like the layout of IE7. I contacted Dell Support for guidance in resolving problems, but the technican was unable to fix the problem either. After using the system restore feature, I was able to restore my computer to a point in where it worked. No problems since. You can access "system restore" by clicking on: (1) Start, (2) click on All Programs, (3) click on Accessories, (4) Click on System Tools, and (5) click on System Store and select restore my computer to an earlier time (ie, date when your computer worked prior to installing IE7). This process resolved my problems and I have concluded IE7 is not very for prime time!!!!

I too have installed ie7 and it did take forever to download, I have windows xp and now I can not link any of my emails that I have received since installing this software. What is the problem?

    J HART :

Downloaded IE7 ... BIG MISTAKE!..... It wrecked havoc on my computer ...... Spent many hours trying to resolve the problems with NO luck, including calling microsoft and spending another half hour of my time waiting for someone to speak to, which NEVER happened. I finally decided to do a system restore on my computer. Thank goodness for that feature!! It worked!!!!! Back to IE6.

You can access "system restore" by clicking on: (1) Start, (2) click on All Programs, (3) click on Accessories, (4) Click on System Tools, and (5) click on System Store and select restore my computer to an earlier time (ie, date when your computer worked prior to installing IE7). I would have to see some really great reviews on IE 7 before I would ever try it again.

Ever since I installed Internet Explorer version 7.0, I can't access my yahoo mail...has anyone else had this problem too? Also, I am no longer able to sign on to my Yahoo Instant Messenger ever since IE-7 was installed on my computer.

Is it possible to "down-grade" to Internet Explorer 6.0?? (because the upgraded version (7) is awful!) Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Buck Wheat :

Downloaded IE7 two 2 desktops and 1 laptaop. All are connected wirelessly to net via home router. No problems with the desktops. After booting wifey's laptop and starting the latest wonder from Redmond, IE7 indicated a constant "CONNECTING" message ... but never connected. The system was locked up 99-100%. Had to commit CTL-ALT-DELETE suicide many times. Fortunately, I restored from backup taken 5 mins before downloading/installng IE7. Never having used the restore funtion before, I looked under system tools at software components before firing up the IE icon. Components reflect all pointed to IE6. Took a deep breath, sacrificed a goat and the neighbor's kid, clicked on the icon, and IE6 came up.

Three days until Xmas and she says I can sleep indoors....

Just installed IE7 and tried to use it but the system just hangs and no toolbar. ( Did have Orange as my homepage). I then uninstalled it and everything is back fine. Dont' bother with IE7

I am so glad I did a search of microsux 7.0 before I downloaded it. Reading all the post "praising" it made me see that the smart thing to do is say HELL NO when I get the "Do you want to upgrade to 7.0 now " update

    Jlpars :

I installed IE7 on my laptop in NOV. I have had no issues. Once I figured out where they moved the buttons to. I like the new version.

My wife put it on her laptop also, but she has been having some of the issues reported here.

Sometimes cannot see wireless signal, have to mess with router and pc to get it to work again.

Browser stops responding if you open a link in a new window, no issues if you right click and open in new tab though.

Sometimes Mcaffee doesn't turn on. thats when you know there will be problems, best just to restart right then.

Only difference between laptops is the brand, I have IBM and my wife has Compaq.

    Jeff Bue :

I upgraded to IE7 about a month ago with very few problems. A definite improvement over IE6. I especially like the tab'ing feature for multiple web sites. I had a problem with my wife's cordless mouse scrolling erratically, but was able to fix that by downloading the latest firmware from logitech.

    Eric Karlson :

Have tried installing IE7 on three different computers. In all three cases, once the system reboots, IE7 cannot connect to any website. Here is the order of events:

    1) System has IE6 and Firefox 1.5 - both can connect to any URL
    2) Install IE7, reboot system
    3) Put the same URL into IE7 and Firefox - IE7 cannot but Firefox can. All other network apps still work as far as I can tell.
    4) Uninstall IE7, reboot system
    5) IE6 and Firefox both work as expected

Don't know what the problem is with IE7, but it is on my "never install" list.

    Ken :

Took a leap of faith, downloaded IE 7 per "automatic update" - BIG REGRETS!

ICONS scattered about, tucked away in illogical areas. Plus it messed up my email where I could no longer distinguish between "read" and "unread" messages. (Very little difference between "bolded" and "unbolded").

Like other posters, I was frustrated not being able to move the tool bars.

Took another leap of faith and uninstalled per Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 support site. (Link below, look for "Q. How do I install/uninstall Internet Explorer 7?"). They directed me to my Control Panel. At first I couldn't find the 'IE 7' file, panicked, then it somehow appeared after I backed out and reentered. (Why?) Uninstalled it successfully. I was automatically returned to IE 6, safe and sound. My favorites, etc. remained intact. Like returning from a bad dream, the nightmare is over. THE END.

IE& IS WORKING FINE FOR ME. Like many of the posts here, at first I had trouble with the browser not responding when I would try to close a window. In my case, the problem was the skype add-on. Once I disabled it, no more problems with IE7. A lot of these posts give IE7 a bad rep. It is more secure than IE6, and that alone is enough for me to want to upgrade.

This article may be helpful to those of you with IE7 problems:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926449

For me, method 3 in the article helped me find the real problem and get IE7 working.

    Lonnie :

Installed IE7 with no problems. Liked new look but could not find how to connect to Outlook Express from the IE7 screen. Restored system to previous day and am now running IE6 like always. Will not upgrade to IE7 untill it is proven to have the icons available to connect to e-mail.

How do I uninstall IE7.0 and reload 6.0? 6.0 went away when I downloaded 7.0 and 7.0 sucks. Can't use Telnet (it says it's disabled "by default" does anyone know how to over-ride that setting?
Can't find a copy of 6.0 to download - I'd rather go back to 6.0. Emails missing, lousy setup at top of screen - somebody really screwed things up with this one.. Any help sincerely appreciated...
    Van

    Ken :

    Van,
To uninstall IE7, go to the Microsoft support link (see my post, five above). After doing so, you get IE 6 back. No need to redownload it. I found no detrimental effects after.

    Ken

    UK Alwyn :

    Thanks a lot to Ken (Dec 25th 2006 3.39pm)

As a senior citizen surfer, I assumed that IE7 would be the cats whisker but soon after downloading I lost control of my e-mails.

However, thanks to your advice, (including mysteriously finding IE7 on add/remove on the second time around ! ) I am now back to normal on IE. Again, many thanks. In future I will keep in close touch with this site.

    Old Ed :

Like many, many others, I downloaded IE7 and it would not connect to many of my favorite websites. Wanting to un-install it, I had similar problems finding it on the list of installed programs---then suddenly there it was! I un-installed IE7.

IE6 came back, but it is NOT THE SAME IE6 as before!! I believe (perhaps superstitiously) that Gates and Company has made IE7 a permanent fixture on my computer and it is now masquerading itself as IE6 (like a different skin). Still can't get to many websites, no matter what I try including several back-restores.

Using Windows XP Home Edition, how can I download a pristine version of IE6? By the way, I tried Firefox and it seems to use some of the left-over junk from the removed IE7 and is flaky, also.

Those of you who think it isn't hurting you, or that un-installing IE7 gets you back to home-sweet-home-IE6 are living in a fool's paradise. Just wait!

    April :

I hate 7.0!! I cannot get to some of my msn games site, and the overall format isn't user-friendly. I followed the guidelines that were supposed to allow me to play games that involved Active X...to no avail!! No, I'm afraid I've screwed up my computer. Is it possible to get 6.0 back??

    Charlie :

I am using Windows XP Professional with Microsoft Office 2000 Professional. Ever since installing IE 7, printing e-mails in Outlook 2000 has become hit or miss. Frequently, the entire top portion of the e-mail is omitted (including the From, Sent, To, Cc, and Subject Line).

The only way to get that information to show up when this happens is to save the e-mail as an HTML document and then print that.

I found one alleged "fix" that required the top and bottom margins of the e-mail to be set at the minimum, but this only works for some e-mails.

Hopefully Microsoft will have a legitimate fix for this soon.

    nitram :

Forget IE7. No toolbar. Can not revert to desktop from right click at bottom of page. Irritates.

    pete m :

My pc downloaded IE7.Installed it and all went haywire. Could not access my homepage, could not upgrade my virus programme and microsoft just about took over my p.c.. Eventually had to reload my operating system when i coul not uninstall IE7's control over things .even tried reinstalling IE6 but it inherited all the problems caused by IE7. What a piece of unengineered garbage, only good for microsoft to try to controll your p.c.

    Steve C :

I am in the same boat as most . However I opted to de-select certain elements in the download. Afterwards, my ISP browser and other computer programs almost slowed down to a complete halt. After adjusting a multitude of settings I can now get it to act like a pre-Pentium computer. It is true that IE7 cannot be properly uninstalled, a message informing users of this fact was part of the download and probably was not seen by those who opted for the express full version and went off to make a cup of tea (or two). My Aol browser is now too slow to use and I cannot successfully use any other browsers. I have to open up IE after connecting to my ISP to get any speed from broadband at all. I cannot afford the cost in time and money to fix mistakes like this and will now stop all automatic updates from Microsoft until I can trust them.

    Ahnad :

Well ... thanks for all the updates. I definitely will not install IE 7. It also explains my fathers PC as he installed it and it is running like crap since.

    Jennifer :

I just installed IE 7 after my computer prompted me to install updates. Very disappointing! I could not longer access the Internet and basically sat frozen for an extended period of time. The installation of this version should not be allowed until it is functioning properly.
I ultimately uninstalled IE7 and fortunately IE6 remained.
    Good luck!!

    John :

If security is your only reason to change to IE7, suggest activating MS firewall, get some decent spyware and virus protection and stick to IE6. My experience of IE7 was much the same as the majority of users it completely messed the comms to external devices plus took a long time to set up.Luckily I managed to uninstall and revert back to IE6. There were elements of IE7 left but rebooting a few times cleared the problem.

    Trey :

    ***THE FIX IS UNINSTALLING IE7***
"Installation of IE70 is reversible, it is true that it does't appear in uninstall menu, still you may uninstall it from here
    C:\WINDOWS\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe

ie7 folder holds your previous IE6.0, you may even run ie6.0 from there."- THANKS LANCRASHER!!!

*After running this uninstall and rebooting, IE6 suddenly appeared and everything worked like it used to.*

    My Problem:
Downloaded IE7 after being prompted that new updates were available. Computer is running Windows XP pro service pack2 and uses a wireless adapter to connect to a wireless router. After install and reboot, internet connection went down and install couldn't finish. After reboot 54MB/sec wireless connection was reduced to 24MB and took a longer time than usual to obtain the IP address. Wireless adapter was able to connect to the router and the local resources were available. IP address assigned by DHCP server (router) was the same as the old settings and within the appropriate range. Pinged local resources, and got a response. Pinged DNS, and I got the 1st of the 4 pings back. The other 3 timed out. While troubleshooting/rebooting, I started getting serial port connection errors, com port errors, activesync errors, and IR port errors as well. Booting to safe mode restored internet connectivity(even with IE7 installed), but only while in safe mode. Seems there was some very sloppy coding done with IE7. Typical for Mircosoft in my opinion. Anyone who doesn't wait at least 6 months after a new software release from mircosoft is just asking for trouble.

    Peter :

I updated to IE7, to find that I was no longer able to access internet. Strangely I am able to log onto Google which was previously my homepage. But I cant follow any links from it. I removed IE7 and reverted to IE6 but the problem has still remained. Has anyone got a suggestion what I should do next?

    Tom Smith :

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT!!!!!!!!! DOWNLOAD IE7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been a technician in the computer industry for over 10 years now. I read the usual blurbage about IE7 when the beta came out, the one thing I learned over the years is NEVER download one of Microsoft's beta's. Not unless you have the time to uninstall or god forbid format and reinstall your backups. Thanks to XP doing a system restore is very simple and usually works, however I have read instances where IE7 screws up the system restores and you can't get rid of it that way. I live in a rural area and have to suffer dialup, IE7 is definitely NOT for a dialup connection. Not only did it bring my system to a crawl period, it also slowed the computers on my home network. I uninstalled IE7, rebooted and it's gone back to IE6 with a few minor variations, but they can be lived with. My internet connection is back to where it was and the other computers on my home network are back to their full bandwidth as well. If you take this advice great, if not, I told you so.....Good Luck, Happy New Year, hopefully we'll not have to suffer as many beta's from Microsoft this year.

    Anna :

Add me to the "no thanks" list! IE7 worked fine for the first day but the next it didn't (wouldn't let me connect to the internet). Went for help and MS person said IE7 has trouble with wifi hookups! Spent 3-1/2 hours on the phone with tech support(!) and finally had to uninstall! Now my MS Windows One Care isn't functioning as well cuz it wants me to reinstall IE7! They have us by the short hairs!

    Khalid Alansari :

I installed IE7 and now none of the sites that I go to normally like YouTube is operational caused they give me a messege saying that my browser cannot display the selection because of JAva is turned off (which is not) or you have outdated Flash Player (which I do have the most recent one). I will try to uninstall the package and see.
I like the fact that I can have tabs but not that crazy about it. I would rather have the flexibility of operating and seeing every site rather than have limited browzing Thank You.

IE7 is ok, very similar to Firefox i say and prefer. only problem i have with it, whenever i close it, it keeps crashing and then it says "would you like to send the error message?" thats the only bad thing about it. i think it looks better that IE6, more modern, but overall the only improvement is the tabbed browsing thing. which is exactly the same as Firefox.

    zan :

I recently installed the Internet Explorer 7 and I too am VERY sorry I did. I spend more time sending Error Reports and rebooting than anything else. Most times I come home and the 'puter is locked up with a nice message "Internet Explorer 7 has encountered a problem and had to shut you down. Sorry for the inconvenience", then I have to cut the power off to get it to restart. It has more problems than a dog with 10,000 fleas. PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP!! How do I get rid of this I.E. 7 affliction and go back to I.E.6!!!!!

    Carla :

TO OLD ED AND ALL OTHERS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS AFTER UNINSTALLING IE7:
Sorry for yelling; but I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!
IF you uninstalled IE7 and STILL could not get on the internet; the problem is NORTON SECURITY (yellow round button on your start menu/remove programs/etc.) I noticed that it had started to pop up and prompt me to install (I run another program; norton came with my HP laptop as it does on many). You have to INSTALL it first before atttempting to remove it from the add/remove section; or it will tell you it cannnot remove. So, install it and then remove it IMMEDIATELY. At the end of the uninstall process; it will prompt you to restart your computer. I did so; and was able to jump online SECONDS later.
I hope this helps someone. Good luck.
(Now I wonder if IE7 would work for me since I uninstalled Norton.Hmm.Don't think I'm gonna take the risk!)

    Ann :

downloaded IE7 it is a piece of crap. Wish I would have looked here first. Trying to 6.0 back with no luck as of yet.

    Sam :

I downloaded internet explore 7 on a wired broadband PC and to tell the truth I have not got any troubles, but saying that there are issues with it, I installed it on a wirless pc and did run into problems, it started not finding my home network anymore and things like that. I did a system restore and took it back to 6 again, another proble I have found with 7 is some banks and for example and the www.symantec.com/securitycheck
that runs and checks for virus will no longer work with 7 because it does not reconise what the browser it is, same with online banks.

    Dipak Bose :

I have used Explore 7 for a while and I hate it.

Possible solution to Internet Explorer not showing video. After some frustration, I found that IE7 may not be auto-selecting it's encoding. Make sure that encoding under the view menu is selected, then go to Tools - Manage Add ons - Enable or Disable Add Ons, and disable the popup blocker class. Restart IE7 and test.

I ha dinstall ie7 some months ago and it worked prefectly and days later it stops and it take 5mins to load on a 1024mb ram computer and it closes all the work when u open Tabs recently was infected with Vundo but got rid of it but still it is crap old junk any one help on how to GET RID OF IT!

    Michael Timms :

My main problem with IE7 is that you cannot personalize the tool bars. It looks and feels just like AOL browser, which I never used when I had AOL because the tool bars are huge and take up most of the screen. I installed IE7, opened it, took one look at it, and when I found I could not change those huge tool bars I immediately uninstalled it. I will not be switching from IE6. When Microsoft inevitably discontinues update support for IE6 I will be switching to Firefox.

    Alan King :

I have installed IE7 on my 6 very different machines with no problems, it is a bit slow on the P3 500Mhz, but still useable and only stightly slower than IE6. Works well on the low spec. Via C3 laptop. Had to restore the menus of course. The only problem I still have is extra windows opening and not automatically closing like they used to. This happens when playing video clips. Anyone know how to fix this?

    D :

Auto Download of IE7 thur windows xp update. Computer would Freeze unexpectedly, everything very slow. General problems to the point of blue screen of "death" and auto reboot. Had to de-install and reinstall my original version from Office XP. Now, no problems at all. But hv to stop every time windows update comes and tries to re-install IE7. Know of othr user hvng similar page load / freeze trouble after install of IE7. Has Microsoft addressed these issues yet?
To remove IE7, go to control panel, add /remove programs, add/remove microsoft components and select IE. BE AWARE that this de-installs ALL Internet Explorers so you will need to reinstall an old version from disk.

    Viccaman :

Please do not take most of the comments above seriously - IE7 works fine on most computers. Some people who have problems with IE7 REALLY have problems with third party software (i.e. ad-ware) or have other issues with their computrers.

    Brenda Northrop :

Last week I realized I was unable to open internet explorer (as I usually run Mozilla). All I got was a flash on the screen. After trying several recommended things to fix it I finally gave up and uninstalled ie 7 not even realizing that was the problem all along. After I uninstalled it, the old ie worked fine. Now we come to this morning. I'm right in the middle of trying to win an item in Ebay and I get an update flash from guess who. I had time so I clicked download and of course ie 7 is the second thing they wanted me to install. Well I figured they must have fixed it now and so I went ahead and installed it. Well after starting and restarting guess what? My dialup connection wouldn't work ! ! ! ! I didn't have time to frig around and try and remedy the situation so yup I promptly uninstalled ie 7, restarted again, and yup everything is working again. Needless to say I had to sign into Ebay again etc... and I lost my item by 2 minutes ! GO FIGURE. Can't they get anything right at Microsoft ? ? ?
Sorry if someone else has already put this comment in but I just don' t have time to go through this whole page right now. I ca get a second mortgage faster than getting something accomplished with Microsoft.

I have a brand new laptop and i updated my computer and with IE 7 running it slows down to a halt. it doesn't even have to run it seems. i think microsoft sent a worm out with it just so people can't do anything with there computers and so they can charge them for assistance on the phone cause this is just retarted. i will stick with IE 6 atleast that one isn't a resource hog.

    locatina :

I downloaded IE 7 and now when I type, it skips letters, it is not as fast as me. I hate it. When you scroll down with your mouse, the page moves crazy. I am going to get rid of it and go back to IE 6.

IE7 closing problem may be remedied by uninstalling and reinstalling Google toolbar. Otherwise, go through your add-ins (Tools - Manage AddIns) and disable them one by one until you find the culprit.

Go to START, CONTROL PANEL and Add/Remove programs. Click on Windows Internet Explorer 7 to highlight it and check remove. It will revert back to IE 6. I did this after 7 kept freezing up on me and not allowing access to web sites. IE 6 is back and working properly.

    Pablo :

IE7 is supposed to be safer than IE6. If you want to be better protected and have a more modern web browser than IE6, try Firefox. You can get Firefox at www.getfirefox.com.

    pete :

Downloaded IE7 2 months ago. Had several glitches as others have described here, but most annoying is that it keeps bombing with "Not Responding" message.
After weeks of trying it seems that IE7 does not know when I am online or offline. If I attempt to access a site when Offline, instead of prompting to connect (and yes I have checked that tick box), it just locks in an endless "Connecting" mode until it crashes with "Not Responding". Also seems to affect Outlook Express, which sometimes cannot access my mail server, and also crashes.
Gave up in the end and returned to IE6 - everything worked fine immediately.
    Don't bother with IE7 - it's full of bugs.

Omg i hate this new thing. first of all for some reason i cant get into internet options it doesnt let me from any way i tried all the ways there are. i dont see a thing where i can uninstall it and it doesnt let me download things or copy things or anything when i click download on something it doest even do anything.. and i want the regular old version that lets me do whatever.. i dont know what to do.

ever since i downloaded internet explorer 7.0, each and everytime that i close out of a site my whole system closes down..then you get that stupid error message and asked whether or not you want to send this error message to miscrosoft. At this point i am quite sure that microsoft is really tired of getting error messages from my computer, but at this point i do not know how to fix the problem...if anyone out there has a clue please let me know. beings that i have to be on the internet to do my job and if i am researching something and close that window, low a behold when it closes the system i lose all that i have been working on in other windows....HELP

    shri :

IE7 continues the microsoft legacy of pushing out untested products. What a waste of time. I installed IE7 and since then explorer hangs everytime I visit any page with popups, or advanced controls.

Microsoft, please test your software once before you ask us to update.

    Brenda :

If you need to remove IE 7 see Bobs comment above on Jan 19, 2007.

    Brenda :

I have had to remove IE 7 twice now and every time automatic updates go in they want me to install it again. DON'T EVEN GO THERE !

    Henk :

Haven't had any problems with IE7 since I installed it 2 months ago.
It even managed to improve stability (since I haven't reinstalled XP ever since I 1st bought it, that's little surprise, the only way it could go was up :P)

Only problem I've ever had, apart from getting used to the new interface, is with an add-on called "My Ad Blocker", which caused IE& to crash whenever I clicked on a drop-down selection box.

So now I happily run IE7 & Firefox side-by-side, with IE7 being for somewhat faster start-up/browsing, and FireFox being safer & for long/large sessions.

    Greg Scholl :

WOW...alot of issues here...I have updated to IE 7 on several machines without ANY of these issues. WTF? One thing I will say is that you should always close running programs...ESPECIALLY antivirus and anti spyware app's when installing new programs...YES even in XP. Norton and Mcafee have been the worst offenders of bad program installations for YEARS. Everytime I visit someones house to fix a PC problem, they usually have so much sh*t running in their taskbar, it's amazing their machine runs at all...and AOL toolbar, Yahoo toolbar, heck, any toolbars addons can screw up an IE install. Having said all that I still run Firefox 2.0 on all my machines as a browser. Smaller, Safer, Faster, More secure, Better designed and supported......nuff said.

    Greg again :

Also take control back of your computer..learn about msconfig and see whats really running everytime you start your computer...use "selective startup" and shut all of it down except what you really need, Google all the startup items and you'll learn alot...also shut off all auto updaters..Quicktime, Realplayer, Musicmatch, Microsoft Works, Office,Windows Update,etc.,etc.,etc.,etc.,etc....all of them! but remember to manually update! The only things I let auto update is Windows Defender and SpySweeper, and I set them to do it at 2am.

I have accidentally deleted the whole Internet Explorer browser. And I forgotten to retrieve the bookmarks in the favorites.

Is it possible for me to get back the bookmarks?

    Ima User :

I installed IE7 and it deleted my entire neighborhood. Help!

    Steve :

IE& seems to freeze repeatedly on several machines I've installed it on. Either simplely stops responding and then goes into near system lock while Dumprep does its thing or does the classic IE needs to close pop-up routine.

I'll stick to Opera until MS gets IE7 sorted out...

Very much dreading the thought of doing Vista Updates on 18 PC's... I know the company president just had me replace his XP Pro box with a new Apple (20" iMac intel version) and it tickled pink!

I think I can do 14 of the 18 boxes that way, so maybe if he is happy budget will be available and I'll just migrate to OS-X across the board rather than fool with Vista/IE7 and all the other near Malware that comes with it.

    JB :

After using IE 7 on a couple of friends computers, I decided to download it to my computer. After installation, it would only work if the "Add-Ons" feature was turned off, and then it didn't work as well or smooth as IE 6. I then went to "Restore" and took my system back to a date when it was working. I tried downloading a couple times thinking that maybe I did something wrong, and each time was the same. I'v now restored my computer, and running IE 6 again, and that's where it will stay until the bugs are worked out!

    Ivan :

Tried IE7 when it first came out. Disappointment #1 was the look of it. HORRIBLE!!! Disappointment #2 was the stupid placement of the menu and no way to change it (that I could find anyway). Disappointment #3, could not resize the button that look like Duplo Blocks. Disappointment #4, IE7 took longer to load up than IE6 and also took loader to load and render pages than IE6 did on my machine. Disppointment #5, IE7 crashed and locked up more than IE6.

Anyway, immediately went back to IE6 and installed Firefox. Firefox is the best so far that I have tried.

    baron :

downloaded IE7 and totaly love it! Had no problems installing or running this OS. GREAT JOB MICROSOFT!!!

    PGB :

read this page 10mins ago, and realised it was ie7 that was causing my sudden freezing problems and as another post says if you simply uninstall thru cp, after a restart ie6 is magically back in charge. Back to FF 4 me.

    Ava :

Don't like this IE7 much. Getting frequent "error" messages. Worse, I can't find any way to print multiple copies of print jobs without having to sit and hit the print icon over and over. CAN ANYONE PLEASE ADVISE HOW TO GO ABOUT PRINTING MULTIPLE COPIES ON THIS VERSION????

    Rick :

How do I get rid of internet ecplorer 7 and get back to explorer 6

    Beverly :

Like a lot of people here, I was duped into downloading IE7 as an update. In attempting to rid myself of of it, I went into the System Summary and found that old Version I had was 5.1 Service Pack 2. Yeah, I was surprised too. I guess I forgot to download 6.1 and never noticed.

Anyway, it does show that 5.1 is my previous version. If I uninstall IE7, will it go back to the 5.1 version? I know it does that with IE6. I don't want to find myself unable to get back on the net because I have eliminated my net browser. I'm pretty ignorant about this stuff and don't want to dig myself into something I can't get out of.

    Beverly :

Ok, ended up getting my question answered. Yes, 5.1 will be there when I uninstall 7.

Got another question. Should I use the restore feature and restore it to a date before I got IE7 and then go ahead and uninstall it?

    Mac Cross :

I have inadvertently DOWNLOADED the IE7, due my Automatic Update setting. However, I have NOT yet INSTALLED the IE7. Every day the gold shield reminds me that "updates are ready for your computer; click here to install these update(s)".

Is there a way to uninstall the download, or will I have to just let it do it's reminder every day?

And, I have no idea IF there are other un-downloaded updates sitting there. How can I find this out?

Maybe I should install the IE7, than do an Uninstall....if that would work without creating a problem with the installation itself.

I have Windows XP Home, high-speed dls, and IE6, Norton Internet Security 2007.

    Please help......

You see these 3 posts, I only posted once and it shows up 3 times! This is the fault of internet explorer! =(

    Trisha :

I am computer illiterate...therefore my question may seem silly. I installed internet explorer 7 and then wasn't protected by my server mcphee through qwest/dsl/msn premium so I reinstalled my msn. Now I don't think I have internet explorer 7 how can I tell and can you use both qwest/dsl/msn premium and internet explorer 7? Also, now my computer is slower since the msn reinstalled. Where it was a lot faster with the internet explorer 7. What do I need to do?

"You see these 3 posts, I only posted once and it shows up 3 times! This is the fault of internet explorer! =(" LOLOL!!!

Reading the features before installing, I thought, "Hmmm, nice of them to include the same exact feature of "Colorzilla", (one of Firefox's all-time best extensions). I'm referring to the ability to zoom both text & images on a page. But it's no secret where the idea of Tabbed Browsing came from, either, so I'm not overly surprised.

AnyHOO, I never quite got to the point to see for myself how "nice" that feature would actually be. I patiently went through the process of having my copy of Windows 'validated'-- *just* for a browser. But why that hassle? I mean, is this software, or are we acquiring top-secret files?

In addition to this, it was disappointing to have to wait & wait for whatever was downloading to do its job. That never happened -- I finally cancelled the download processes in the Task Manager, as it kindly did not provide a button for me to do so. Not a working button, anyway, the "X" was greyed-out.

Even though I had been sold on Firefox, and before that, Netscape, I was willing to give this a shot. Too bad M$ has to lock everything down to the point where you can't even execute something as simple as downloading files at an acceptible speed! After reading the above posts, I'm that much more ... errr... validated... in my decision to stay as far away from IE as possible.

    Shaner :

I downloaded it due to the update prompting. It deleted my desktop icon to open browser, so I had to go to Windows update to get online. The whole interface had changed , so it was hard to find things, as Ie 6 was already very fast and efficient(been using that interface for 8+years). The webpages also froze up and didn't load properly. Bottom Line, Ie 7 is a joke, don't download it yet, wait a year for the bugs to get worked out. I reinstalled Ie6 as soon as found the way how to. My desktop shortcut to Ie is still gone, Thanks alot ie7.

    Stuart Pilling :

Just tried for a day and then uninstalled IE7. The tool bars wern't user friendly, which I guess was just a matter of getting used to it. But the main annoyance was when scrolling up or down whith the wheel on my Logitech mouse,it would continue scrolling and I couldn't stop it.There does not seem to be a way of diabling the function, it may be a bug. Which doesn't surprise me with new just released software.
Had no other prob's with it and uninstalling back to IE6 was easy, using the add remove program in XP. I also created a system restore point before I installed IE7. As well as before I went back to IE6, just in case. Unfortunately we may be forced into using IE7 in the future, i'm sure it is intergrated in Windows Vista! won't be looking foward to that day.
So Mr Microsoft,it appears you have a lot of work to do eh!!!!!!

    ravisankar :

    Frank :

    Hi,

    I installed IE7 and didn't like it.

I've done a system restore to just before I installed it. I'm back to IE 6 with no problems at all.

Just thought some of you might want to try it!

    Start>
    Accessories>
    System Tools>
System restore - then just find a date before you installed the IE7

    Leif :

Went along with IE7.0 Beta for some month without any problems.

Windows Automatic Update updated to IE 7.0 final edtion a couple a days ago and it just don't work. Adobe plugs in did not work, deleting cookies, history and temp intenet file did not work either. I am back on the track again with IE 6 and happy.

    Leif

    Nate :

    Mel :

I have successfully downloaded IE7. I have problem when I go to sites that require security certification,eg webmail.I often continue to the site but have difficulties navigating and responding to my email. My current version of IE works just find with my webmail.I like IE7 so what can I do to eliminate this problem.

    Brenda :

I too upgraded my IE from 6 to 7 on my IBM T43 Thinkpad. since then laptop used to hang at least 2-3 times a day. I initially though of memory issue but soon realized its not. Day before yesterday I uninstalled it. Since then computer has not hung. I have to believe it is because of IE7.

    shishir

    misy :

your website was unhelpful and did not answer any of my questions i don't care how many people have this problem i just want mine fixed. you should remove this website because it is ridiculous and a waste of space and time. thank you for taking the time to remove this site.

    Deb :

Since I downloaded internet explorer 7, I get an error message for my aol toolbar. Does anyone know how to fix it? Short of going back to internet explorer 6.

    Rook :

Installed IE 7.0 and HATED it. Icons were scatterd all over the page, the address line was at the very top of the screen, couldn't customize the page at all. Very user-unfriendly. Had to restore my system to kill it like a fungus and bring back version 6.0.

My advice: do not upgrade to 7.0. Version 6.0 is far superior and easier to use.

    THE TRUTH :

IE7 should be placed on all hoax reports for perpetrating as a software product. Anyone considering the shift should not do it. In-fact, Firefox is a much better browser anyway. I must have been smoking something to give Microsoft a shot.

    What a stinker!

    Smith :

Count both of my thumbs in, all the way down! Live Update wouldn't search for new updates until I had installed IE7 (dirty trick), so I did it. IE7 just freezes every time I open it. It does look ugly as hell; like the Fischer Price version or something. I haven't had a chance to use it, though, because it just opens and promptly freezes. If I have other programs running, even Notepad, it freezes them, too.
    Ctrl + Alt + Del!
    UNINSTALL!
    I need a Mac.

    Smith :
    Greg :

Nate just remove IE7 if you had IE6 before it will return. But I think FireFox is a better choice anyway. I just did what I have recommended to you and I was having the same problem with IE7 and DSL connection.

    Peter Olsson :

Same story here, IE7 is the worst software ever and removing it seems impossble. Windows revert to IE6, but it is not the same IE6 as before. I used to have 10-15 IE6 windows open without any problems. Now 5 windows idling takes 50-60% CPU resources doing nothing. I'm so pissed I could strangle the shithead who let this crap out. Looks like I have to do a clean windows install, and how f...ing fun is that?

    Upset and Angry :

WARNING: DO NOT DOWNLOAD IE 7.0 UNLESS YOU WANT PROBLEMS THAT CANNOT BE FIXED!!!!!!

I hate IE 7.0, too! After I updated, I could not open even just one more window (I could open 10 before!) and my computer made the loud whooshing sound and would not stop! The windows froze, so I had to do Ctrl + Alt + Delete. So, I uninstalled 7.0 to go back to 6.0, and 6.0 is not the same - I can get into my Yahoo mail but I cannot open any links or do any searches because another window which is completely BLANK will open and just hang (Not Responding may appear)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then, both windows freeze, so I have to close IE. It's useless, dead, now!!! I can never use IE 6.0 again! DO NOT DOWNLOAD INTERNET EXPLORER 7.0!!!!!!!!!! IT WILL MESS UP YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE IMPORTED ALL OF MY IE FAVORITES INTO AOL AND EVERYTHING'S WORKING FINE. I HAVE CONTACTED MICROSOFT FOR HELP, BUT SO FAR, THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN SOLVED. All of you who have problems should contact to let them know, so they will know that many people are having problems due to 7.0. Do you really want 7.0, bharat? Your comment is useless. You may not want it if you have problems with it later, and then it's too late because it will corrupt your 6.0 files when you uninstall 7.0 to go back to 6.0. I've been in contact with MS Support and they don't have a solution but just trying different methods such going through a zillion steps to make sure nothing else is wrong with my computer (NO, nothing else is wrong), disabling my Norton anti-virus, then completely removing it (took me 3 hours to re-install it since Norton is not the cause of the problem - IE hanging/freezing!!!) MS tech support had me create another user account, but IE still did not work, so now I have to download Windows Service Pack 2 (find someone who has cable connection so it can be downloaded fast or else it will take 5 to 6 hours on a dial-up connection!!) and then do a "non-destructive recovery", after backing up all my files, to be SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully, that will override the corrupt IE 6.0 files. The last resort would be to do a complete restore, MS Support told me. SO, THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU UPDATE TO IE 7.0 (it's been the DEVIL for lots of us - days of wasted time, and stress, and sleepless nights, trying to fix the problem - MS support finally admitted that our IE 6.0 files were CORRUPTED when we uninstalled 7.0, which was freezing up out computers, XP users.

Please post comments on whether 7.0 is working for you or NOT!!!!!!!!!

I got IE 7 from automatic updates, and now my PC is screwed big time. I am not able to use My outlook express or Microsoft Outlook, The opening of Website is pretty slow. THe original Beta version was good but the final product is totally fucked up and will messup the whole thing. Worst Part: you have to format the LAPTOP or Home PC as IE6.0 wont work well.

    what the :

I downloaded mozilla firefox and it isn't much different to navigate than ie. Worst case do what I did, "try it" IT CAN BE REMOVED!!!!
Takes about 35 min. dial-up. Since ie7 won't let me access web. BYE, BYE ie.

    retarded :

Hey, I just want to be able to view a few Flash sites I used to frequent-but NO WAy.

Upon entering the Flash sites, they say I need to have version 6 or later installed, and re-direct me to the Adobe site.
When I try installing Adobe Flash 9, the next page shows I have 6 installed, and none of the Flash things work.

So then I follow a couple of message boards, and uninstall the previous Flash player, and go back to the Adobe Flash download page to re-download it. (I also changed all the security boxes to allow Active X, Flash, dowloads, etc).

It has a security window asking if I want to allow Acive X, I say yes, then bammo!
Right back to the page not working, and nothing but that damn adobe picture icon.

I can't view any Flash or get the new player installed. What is the internet without Flash?@!#!?? Thanks Microsoft. Thanks alot.

    Brian :

A client of mine had IE7 for a short while and now it freezes as soon as its opened. I removed some spyware and Google/Yahoo toolbars. I also used the "reset" option under advanced. Now it opens without freezing but won't load any websites.

Any ideas how to fix it?

    misty :

I have also been having problems with IE7. It just keeps closing. Comes up with a message - Sorry internet explorer has encountered a problem and has to close. So it does!!!!right in the middle of downloads and scanning by Trendmicro housecall site to check my pc for spyware, trojans, malware and viruses. It is the most upsetting problem I have had in a long time. Doesn't sound good going by what I have read here. Annoyed is putting it mildly. Grrrrrrr

    Jonathan :

Why does IE7 not maximize screens and screen changes.

I totally agree with above. IE7 opens with broken window at top and 'finds site' then crashes.

    Shirley Griffin :

I removed IE 6, then instaLLED ie7 (WHICH i DO NOT LIKE} hOW DO i GET ie 6 BACK. mY PRINTER IS CONFUSED.wHAT DO i DO? tHANKS. sHIRLEY- pLease Email me

    Alan :

I had nothing but trouble with IE7. After wasting hours fighting lock ups, and crashes, I removed all the add-ins and browser helpers like google tool bar, and yahoo. Also update Adobe Reader to version 7 or better. I then reinstalled IE7, updated everything on my machine, and I have to say, its all working great. I believe all the problems are compatibility issues. I'm not going to say it was worth the trouble, but I do like the tab feature. Plus now I can turn Windows Update back on without fear of something unexpected happening!

    Eugene :

After having installed IE 7.0 I was no longer able to access some of my sites, such as earthlink.net (so now I can not get my email), cnn.com (so now I can not get my news), microsoft.com, so now I can not get MS' advice to fix this problem, and ebay.com. Most other sites I can access.

I talked to a bevy of Earthlink support people, they acknowledge that IE 7.0 has brought them so many complains of this kind and they try a few things to fix them but, most of the time, they can't. In these case they tell people to talk to MS.

I am using IE 6.0 now but I still can not connect to these sites. In fact, Outlook can not connect to earthlink.net to get mail and FireFox can not connect to these same sites. IE 7.0 messed up my computer pretty bad and its effects continue to linger in my system.

Is anyone else having these problems?

    James :

I have installed IE7. The main problem is that it is massively resource hungry even when there is nothing to do. And I am not a computer illiterate type: I have turned off all the un-necessary popup blocking, anti-phishing nonsense, etc, and also disabled all the additional add-ins that may be causing problems. However even so IE7 is eating up about 2-3% CPU per static page loaded when idle. Don't ask about when doing something! I never though a simple web browser would be more cpu hungry than say google-earth is when in action! And this is on a 3.8GHz pentium 4 machine with 4GB of ram, so this is about the fastest single-threader you can get.

Mmm. And IE7 is the conerstone of Vista. I hear Aero has been built with exactly the same levels of efficiency!

After years of using Windows as my main or only OS, I am slowly making the move to a Fedora distribution of linux. For years Windows did actually just do things a little more cleanly, a little better, a lot faster (in terms of user interface) and allowed more versatility in software. It seems things have shifted onto the other foot now. I just did a clean install of Fedora core 6 on my other machine, which was much easier than my last windows install, and instead of having to go to 40 different websites to get the software I needed, I could just type yum this, yum that, yum the other, and its all there. And then at the end of that it works! Quickly, cleanly, no fuss. And 64 bit!

Looks like the time has come.

    Carling :

IE7 sucks, when i went back to IE6, theres popup problems. when i go to a new site is pops up with a broken link. email me please

    kathy :

This is the worst product I have ever seen. I have had nothing but problems with IE7. It slows down my pc and will not allow me to print from the internet. I have not been able to remove it since there are some files that will not copie and I end up with no browser at all each time I try. SO far I have been able to restore point but I learned too late to restore back to the point I put this shit on my PC. DON'T do it unless you like spending a lot of time fooling around with messes on your PC.

    Tommy L :

DON'T INSTALL IE7 -- ever since I installed it I keep getting fatal error messages and lose my internet connection, and whatever I'm doing online, when it shuts down!

    LeAnne :

I thought IE7 was working just fine --- however, now I am not sure. When I went to play a CD by Windows Media Player --- nothing. It would not work and neither would Real Player. I have gotten Real Player to work (sort of) but --- if I do use it, it locks up IE7 and my connection. I have to reboot to connect to internet. WMP does not work at all -- it's always CTRL ALT DEL for it. Has anyone experienced this problem and is there a solution?

    Tony M :

I downloaded IE 7 and after that I could not get on the Internet any more. Not even my Firefox would connect to the internet. So I uninstalled IE 7 and every thing works fine again. Screw IE 7.

    Florence Morgan :

I to downloaded Ie7 do not like it at all it has problems big time thank god i only did it on my desktop and not my laptop, it screws up a lot, i have problems with my norton anti-virus screwing up, am pissed. am going back to 6 hope it solves the problem cause i'd hate to have to go and restore thats a bigger pain. I don't know what the hell they were thinking, my motto is if it ain't broke don't fix it.

IE7 is the worst version I have come across.
I have a 12mb line at home & with ie7. Despite turning off alll the add ons & un-needed toolbars on my home pc my upload speed is now 300k & download just maxes at less than 1mb. On the same line with a my 3yr old ibm laptop using ie6 I get 3mb. My next task will be to uninstall reformat to get rid of it all. To me it looks like it is untested and a great advert for firefox.

The IE7 install also makes Cleartype (Blurtype would be a better name) mandatory on your machine. I don't even use IE and was forced to spend two days trying to figure out why an automatic update made my screen blurry. What were they thinking???

I read through many of these comments after I somehow(?)got in here looking for help w/IE7. I decided to try one of the simpler suggestions to begin with - to uninstall add-ons. I uninstalled the Google Toolbar and that has given me a total fix! I did this about 3 weeks ago and I've had no problems since. Prior to that I'd had nearly every problem stated in the above comments. Hope this helps some of you. :)

IE7 doesn't comply to CSS 2.0 spec, and is full of numerous HTML and JavaScript event bugs. As a web developer, its a continual nightmare adding 'Hacks' to web pages to make IE render pages properly.

The browser is still causing nightmares for web developers. You are more likely to experience issues viewing web sites with this bowser. Do yourself a favor and move to Firefox or Opera.

AGAIN, WHATEVER YOU DO... DO NOT INSTALL IE7

I've hated IE for as long as I can remember, and am a Firefox user myself. But that doesn't work with certain things. I'm also an IT Manager, and having seen IE7 on some laptops and them not seemingly having any problems. I decided to install IE7 for the first time on an accounting machine that was having some weird popup issues with IE6.

Skip ahead to where I install IE7 and restart, machine boots back up with Problem with your Local connection... Can't get an address via DHCP. I tried assigning manual ips, and you can ping local machines, but can't ping or hit anything on the internet, even with an internet DNS server set statically. Ok so WTF. I installed a linksys wireless adapter, what do you know same problem. Did virus scans, spyware scans, etc.. No problems there.

Uninstalled IE7, restarted, same damned problem except now it is IE6 and can't get on the network. So I call Microsoft thinking with all these complaints they have to of heard of this one. So I get on the phone with support who can barely speak english. And she runs me through the process of looking for this folder, looking for that folder, then has me tell her me IE version for the third time. She tells me since it's internet explorer 6 she has to transfer me to that department. So you can imagine how that goes.

I've got a critical machine I'm about to take home tonight and reload from scratch, thanks a lot M$.

IE7 was pre-installed on my recently purchased NEW DELL computer, and I am always getting "not connected to the internet; internet restarting", and I have DSL. With IE6 I NEVER ever had a problem. Microsoft.com sucks, cause they provide no solutions to the problems I have been having with IE7...and to think they have the nerve to charge in order to get help with this piece of crap.

I think a "Class Action" lawsuit should be filed, demanding to replace(not repair), at cost, computers that have crashed within a year timeframe, and to make Microsoft offer FREE online chat or telephone help with their piece-of-crap products. Hell, Bill Gates can afford it !!

I was sent a crucial update message by microsoft or who knows who so I went to microsoft.com and downloaded IE 7, what a mistake!!!! I could not get the internet to display the page no matter what I did so I uninstalled it and was supposedly going back to IE 6 but no way, IE 6 would not work either. I tried to restore to an earlier date but it wouldn't go past the date I had done the download (why????). My version is XP Home edition. I called HP to try and get some help but they wanted to charge me so I said no! I noticed at the bottom I got a blue icon which said I was running an unsecure operating system. Shortly after the computer went into a loop of booting up and shuting down to a blue screen. What now?????? I think I'll take my late father-inlaws advice who was a programmer for a car company, "Microsoft has to many problems, buy a Macintash" If my machine is done there is no way I'm going to buy from a company that sent me a destructive update. Hewlett Packard can get lost too!!!!!!!!!!!!

A month ago I got QWEST DSL with msn Premium. This included Internet Explorer 7. automatically. Works fine' So does HOTMAIL and Outlook Express. The DSL cost me about $26.99 per month. I had AOL dialup for 14 yrs. WHY???
SO for now my $26.99 goes for something that stays connected rather than $24.99 for disconnects all day. Hope this helps someone. If you are still looking for the msn Flicking Butterfly on desk top, try subscribing to MSN 8 This gives u msn connection Wizard.I tried to get the msn connection Wizard for my DSL broadband, but my DSL would not support it.

I downloaded IE7 on one of my computers Monday night and have not been able to get on the Internet with that computer since. My other computer which is also on a wireless connection is still using IE6 and is fine. Cable One, my provider tried to help me but finely gave up and recommeded I take it in and have the problem fixed. I tried to uninstall IE7, but that did not help. How did everybody else with the same problem fix it?

I just down loaded the new IE7. However when trying to use it, it tells me that I am not connected to the internet. Is this because of AOL? I have to use IE7 to access my exams for college. Please help.

Using IE7 with Vista (just got new Dell Cpu) Everytime I want to close a web page The screen whitens and i get a window from Microsoft Windows that says INETRNET EXPLORER has quit working.
Windows can check for a solution
    check online
    close the program
also had details to review. If I click the close the program, then all closes out and back to the desktop which is wanted to do in the first place. Why the extra step to close. Surely there must be a fix. tried online help from MS but they want $78 even though I have only had this computer for about 6 weeks.

    jmohan :

Well, this is a new one from what I read. My problem is that IE7 will not open any web page on my wifes profile. If I switch profiles(on the same machine)it works just fine. After playing with it for 5 hrs and trying different Norton options I just did a restart and now it works on her profile as well. This happens quite offen. I would nor say always. Has MS made any improvements I should know about or be looking for. I have finally gotten used to everything being in a different spot and dont mind the interface, I just really dislike getting phone calls when I am away saying the internet doesn't work when I can ping my IP from outside.

I hope there is some good news!

    SAm,

I am going to download firefox, but how do you make it the default web browser? Right now everything defaults to IE7. Up until 5 days ago, it worked fine, now I get page cannot be displayed errors and I can't get IE to uninstall. It says it is, but when I tried to go back to IE6, it says 7.0 is still there.

What the heck happened with 7.0?

    Dianne :

I have a dell laptop w/xp. I download IE7 and for a few days everything was ok. Then my laptop went crazy. I could not get an internet connect thru DSL or dial-up. Tried everything I could think of. When I ran diagnostics on it I found out that it screwed up my hard drive. Now have uncorrectable errors on it that I cant seem to fix. Finally got IE7 off my puter but nothing seems to be able to repair the damage it did to my hard drive. DO NOT DOWNLOAD IE7. IT WILL F-UP YOUR COMPUTER. Thanks Bill Gates I now need either new laptop or new hard drive.

    Harbinger of MS :

An update to Windows Internet Explorer 7 is on the horizon(version 8), please be patient. In the interim, I suggest you go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced and click RESET. Do not disable add-ons if you do not know what they are for. IE7 does not do physical damage to your hard drive or any computer hardware.
XP users should ensure they have installed all microsoft updates before and after upgrading to IE7(check the microsoft website for more info on Microsoft Updates, as this includes more updates than Windows Update). It is strongly advised you back-up your system before installing IE7.
If you find your system has become corrupt by uninstalling IE7, attempt a Windows XP recovery, use your supplied Windows XP disc/s (again back-up your system before doing this to avoid data loss).

Posting in an effort to help others with the same problem (i.e. Internet Explorer not connecting to the Internet but Firefox connecting OK).

The problem occurred some time ago - I was still on Dial-Up - one evening IE-6, OE, Firefox and update procedures for software worked. The next morning Firefox and Outlook Express would connect BUT IE-6 and most software updates would not. At this time I was running SpyBot and Kaspersky AntiVirus. Since then I have moved to BT Broadband but still IE-6 and software updates would NOT connect (Firefox & OE were fine).

Have recently downloaded AVG AntiSpy, SuperAntiSpyware, Ad-Aware; have manually updated all of these and updated SpyBot. Have also deleted Kaspersky AntiVirus (outdated) and installed AVG AntiVirus - sadly, this resulted in no change to what was happening. I obviously performed full scans with every one of the products - all to no avail.

This morning, I came across one post where the writer had 'fixed' the problem by deleting his Norton Anti-Virus. After thinking for a bit I remembered that when Kaspersky was installed it had also installed Kaspersky Anti-Hacker -a monitor for attacks via the ports. There was an icon for it in the system tray. I right-clicked the icon and exited the program. I clicked the IE icon and IE came up and connected to my home page. I un-installed the Kaspersky Anti-Hacker and rebooted. Sadly, IE was back to NOT connecting BUT another re-boot sorted it out. Since then IE and program updates have worked fine !

SO, what had happened ?? All I can think is that on the evening everything last worked there was an MS Update for IE which updated it to bring it in-line with the new IE-7. This update had installed code which conflicts with older anti-viral or port monitoring software. SO, my suggestion would be that you should try disabling your anti-viral software and see if IE works. If it does, change your protection software or get a more up to date version.

    Dorri :

I was recently prompted to download IE-7. Everything was fine before but not since I allowed this download. Now this version is causing my cp to boot me into darkness without warning...many times it imobilizes my AV program among many other strange annoyances. I want my IE 6 back! I feel they invaded me with an unnecessary download by popping it up on my window prompting me to upgrade.

@Steve McWilliam - Thanks for the insight. I will have to check that out.

I used IE 7 since it was first publicly available as a beta, and never had any issues on my desktops under XP at all. However, when I upgraded my father's old laptop with an RC1, everything worked fine for quite a while.

One day he said it stopped connecting - but within a week he had purchased a new Dell home system, so it was not a big deal - he kept the laptop around to work on, writing letters, finances, etc, but since it would not connect via IE he assumed the internet connection was dead and didn't even connect it to the Net.

I got a hold of it last night, and there is nothing wrong with the connection - everything works except IE - Fx, PING, tracert, Automatic Updates (48 of them - that took a while), everything.

The system came installed with McAfee suite, and it is pretty old - P4M 2.8 GHz, probably around 3-4 years old - so I have been racking my brain while using Fx portable from my UFD to get around this - I have tried simply exiting from the McAfee tray icon, but I guess it leaves its protections enabled - most of which are horribly out of date anyway since the included subscriptions would have run out years ago.

I'll give it a go and see if uninstalling McAfee completely does the trick.

I also noticed at least one previous respondent (if not more) specifically say laptop had issues whereas a desktop did not - perhaps there is more to the problem here than just a conflict of resources between these programs?

Nope - uninstalling McAfee does not make a difference. neither does removing the 'Automatically detect settings' for proxies help.

Every other browser I have tried works, and my father said next time I am over to install Netscape.

    Problem solved (sort of).

    Allyson :

    Someone PLEASE HELP!
My dad installed IE7 and we hated it, so we uninstalled it. It reverted back to IE6 like we wanted, but whenever we try to go to a website from our drop-down menu, it opens up a new blank window where nothing loads and a little pop-up will come up saying that "Windows cannot locate '(null)'" and to "search for files, click start and search" or something like that. Sometimes 10+ of these pop-ups will open up.
Secretly, I use firefox, which I LOVE, but I don't want my parents to know about it, because i use it for things I don't want them to know about. Oh the joys of being a teenager who is forced to share a computer.
Could someone PLEASE help me fix this problem we're having so I am not forced to let my parents use Firefox? lol.

    Susan :

I have installed IE7.0 3 different times, three different ways. First was when I was prompted that there were updates to my computer available. I accepted the download, and then tried to access Internet Explorer, my computer screen froze, in fact the whole system was stuck -- even CTRL ALT DLT didn't work, so I had to shut it down. Thankfully someone at Rogers told me I could set my computer system back to the day before I had updated to 7.0, which I did and everything was okay. Second attempt was after contacting someone at Internet Explorer Customer Service who helped me download it. By hitting F8 while the computer was turning on, it took it into a "safe" mode for downloading software. When I turned on the computer the same thing happened as before. The third time was thru a different prompt. Same thing. I kept thinking that maybe enough time had passed, and they had probably fixed the problem I was having. I am now being prompted again to download 7.0 and am fearful of doing so, expecially after reading this site. Is there a reason of importance for wanting to upgrade to 7.0?

Intalled 7.0 and did not like it. A few good features, but mostly it was user Un-friendly. My computer was doing some quirky things. Wasn't sure if I would get 6.0 back if I unintalled 7.0, so I went to system restore. Very relieved to have good old 6.0 back.

Is he really that rich?? LOL! This is just ridiculous! Every site that I go to, they try to come up with ad copy that imitates what I'm looking at, and if it were'nt for my desktop cleaners, I would'nt make any money at all!

If that is the way that updating to a better browser leaves me, I'll gladly go back to IE6 or even 5, or maybe learn LINUX!

Now I see what Leo Leporte was talking about!

April 10, 2008 Shutdown my desktop computer and received auto update to computer. It must have changed IE6 to IE7 - I'm having all sorts of problems...windows won't pop-up when I click on links on my ok sites, even if I say allow pop-ups; it takes too long for sites to come up. I have to use my laptop to surf the net because it still has IE6-thank goodness! You would think that these problems would be fixed by now since IE7 release - how long ago???

    joey :

i think IE7 is a stupid knock off piece of shit it crashed my brand new $8000 alienware computer..WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF SHIT IS MICROSOFT PUTTING OUT?

    janine toohey :

A window kept popping up to install this version -said to upgrade now. I thought I was putting it off too long, and one day I caved in and accepted the upgrade; what a huge mistake I made. Glad to have found this site and all these complaints, so I know I am not alone. I hate the new 7 version; any ideas how I can roll back to 6? I suppose that is what I had prior to his horrible operating system. Everything on my computer is all messed up; my music files in my player program turned into MP3's - how can that be? I am so mad, that I ever upgraded. I can't burn CD's - just get a error message. All was working fine until this awful update. If you have not done so yet DO NOT upgrade to this flakey version - it needs testing and more work. It is horrible - a true nightmare!!!

    victor arnold :

This shit sucks, get off your overweight Geek asses and fix this.

    Claudann :

I wish I had Googled IE7 BEFORE downloading it! I wasted a lot of wireless download MBs to download this crap! I'm glad to know it isn't just something I screwed up on or that my computer is a piece of junk.

Wonder what it costs to get some of those other browsers like Firefox, Safari, etc. I don't know anything about them, but I may have to give them a try. Then again, IE6 seems okay, so maybe I'll just revert back to it.

If I could afford a new laptop right now, I'd get a Mac. I hate Microsoft and Windows and everything about it. I've been hesitant to go with the "unknown" and get a Mac. But I will certainly be getting one next time. Death to Microsoft!

    Dick :

I have been reading all the negatives about this damn 7. I downloaded, got all the stuff with it that all you got SHIT. I deleted it, no deference, I restored no deference. I need some help, anyone PLEASE.

    Luis M :

Erm. Well, I'm running IE7 fine, it's a bit slow but my mate made a reg tweak for that, I never get popups, it's FASTER than safari and firefox with this tweak (I'll have to admit IE7 is very slow without this tweak) and it's really not at all buggy. Just install the latest IE7 from the microsoft page, update it via MS Update and you're set, also search "joby866" on youtube and look for "Make IE faster than Safari" and download the tweak, switched from Firefox to IE7 because of that tweak, and I'm well proud of it.

Hi all, I don't know what your all bitching about, i'm using IE 7.0 a few months now. No problems here.
