Microsoft Makes 'Genuine Advantage' Verification Mandatory

Microsoft has been testing its 'Windows Genuine Advantage' anti-piracy program for the past year. On Tuesday, Microsoft ended the voluntary, opt-in phase and made the verification process mandatory for Windows users looking to download any kinds of Windows-related updates and fixes. Microsoft is continuing its policy of allowing even those who can't prove they are running non-pirated copies of Windows to still obtain critical security fixes, however.

When I attempt to sign-in to MSN, it is not able to verify WL ID that I have and I ran out of all the options to try to find out why. I added microsoft.com to my trusted sites list and have not been able to opt for verification email to microsoft. The MSN Explorer always has a message at the bottom "not signed in, will keep trying..." Error 22, 175,8b010016 WL ID yet, I can use IE7 to get to my hotmail in a round about maze and I am on line then, signed in with that. The phone Tech for MSN tried to help, can you please inform me something solid that can and will fix this problem. I and my wife on her, this computer have researched daily for weeks having run out of options. XP SP2 32bit Intel dial-up WY. Thank you.

I read the above comment and that sounds exactly like our problem. Is there someway to fix it and what is causing it? Plus we have been getting kicked out of the web quite frequently. A square comes up in the center of the page and it says something like sorry there's problems but they are shutting me down. And in the next second I'm kicked out. The problem with not getting into the web seems to be coming from your end because we are signed in locally. Fred Graupmann

Mike :

I also receive the error code 8b010016 but can't find out what is causing it or exactly what it is. I lose some of my internet connectivity but can usually get it back by opening 'HotMail'. This mkes no sense, I know. Anyone know what the error code means? I sometimes believe that the problems are caused by Windows Live search. It seems to take over my PC at times and that's when the problems start.
