Microsoft Outlines Three-Pronged Linux Attack Plan



How does Microsoft plan to outgrow Linux in the coming years? There are three arenas, or workloads, where Microsoft is focusing especially strongly: security/edge computing; Web/hosting; and high-performance computing. That's according to Server and Tools Chief Bob Muglia, who spoke at the company's annual Financial Analyst Meeting (FAM) on July 27. Muglia showed Wall Street and press attendees a chart he called the "Windows Server Heat Map," an internal tool which breaks the server market into workloads and highlights where Microsoft plans to step up its investments going forward.
