Microsoft Research's machine learning and applied statistics group has found a new use for data-mining algorithms that it developed. Not only do these algorithms help Microsoft analyze e-mail patterns as part of its quest to eliminate spam, but they also can be used to unearth patterns in the genetic mutations of patients with HIV. Microsoft researchers are presenting their findings at the 12th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections on Wednesday. |
