Microsoft's Claria Rating Change a Coincidence?



After last week's discovery by security researchers that Microsoft had eased up on Claria, (in terms of how Windows Antispyware grades potential spyware/adware), the rumors and speculation regarding Microsoft's intentions to purchase Claria became even more heated. This week, however, Microsoft officials are claiming the rumored acquisition plans and change in Claria's status are completely coincidental. The move has left watchdogs wondering what's really going on with Microsoft's anti-spyware tool. And speaking of spyware, Microsoft and other founding members of the Anti-Spyware Coalition released on Tuesday a first draft of a 13-page document designed to establish firmer definitions of spyware.
