Google launched Google Talk, its instant messaging plus VOIP service, on Wednesday. Microsoft already announced earlier this year a similar offering, Microsoft Office Communicator (which was code-named "Istanbul"). Office Communicator is aimed more at business users than Google Talk seems to be. Microsoft is continuing to back MSN Messenger as its consumer instant-messaging client of choice. On Tuesday, Microsoft rolled out the latest MSN Messenger release (version 7.5), which supports the exchange of brief audio clips.
