The Rumors Are True: 'Blackcomb' Is Now 'Vienna'

Code name junkies, update your trackers. The next major version of Windows client set to follow Windows Vista is no longer known as "Blackcomb." The new name is "Vienna," Microsoft officials have confirmed. Tech evangelist Robert Scoble let the Vienna cat out of the bag over on Channel 9. We were skeptical, given the fact that Microsoft recently used the Vienna name to refer to Live Communications Server 2005. But here's the official statement from a company spokesman: "The codename for Blackcomb has changed to 'Vienna'. This does not reflect a big change for us; we have used city code names in the past. These code names are derived from cities/locations in the world known for great 'vistas'. The kinds of places we all want to see, experience and that capture the imagination. Vienna fits with this concept. There are no additional details to share about Vienna at this time."

Dan Wu :

Interesting choice of name, considering the fact that the City of Vienna government has decided to use Linux on its computers instead of Windows...

Moobles :

Lets hope that Vienna will be better than Vista, hopefully they should step back and take bits from previous and slightly better operating systems instead of cramming everything on user experience, creating massive resource intake.
Glad theres going to be a 64 bit version as well as 32 bit, and 64 bit Server edition.

lavanya :

Wats the fun of changing name to vienna when vienna itself is movin to linux from windows

I am happpy to hear that new windows operating system is going to be launched.
but I am afraid that it will also be same as Vista because vista is very new in its features but many of the applications are not working with vista.
We will be happy if the new operating system(Vienna) will be launched with advanced featres linke((or more than) vista and all the applications work in it.
