As widely expected, Microsoft has resurrected the Sidebar task pane that it had originally planned to make part of Longhorn/Vista. The Sidebar will show up in a build some time after 5219, the first Vista Community Technology Preview (CTP) build of Windows that Microsoft is distributing here at the Professional Developers Conference. Microsoft also has resurrected the "Sideshow" code name, but it's got a new meaning. The new Sideshow will allow Windows Vista users to run mini applications or "gadgets," or applets, on PCs with auxiliary displays.
