When Good Microsoft Stories Go Bad

Not once, but twice in one week did reporters take Microsoft tidbits and run amok with them. First was the by-now well-publicized gaffe that led to a number of reports claiming Microsoft was about to deliver a $50 iPod killer. If you read MSN VP Yusuf Mehdi's transcript, you will see he said no such thing. Ditto on this Microsoft security story. If you read the transcript of Security VP Rich Kaplan's remarks, you won't see anything about XP Service Pack 2 being delayed until September. It's still a Q3 deliverable (at least for now). But last week, Microsoft execs said it's still looking like late July for RTM.
