Will MOOL Be Microsoft's Alternative to Thunderbird?
|
The Mozilla Foundation made available on Monday Thunderbird 1.0, its open-source e-mail client. Thunderbird is for folks who want a richer experience than Web mail, but also want the ability to use Exchange as their back-end mail server. Microsoft officials have outlined plans for a similar product, that would combine an enhanced Hotmail front-end with an Exchange backend. Will we see a Thunderbird vs. MOOL (Microsoft Office Outlook Live) face-off, in the not-too-distant future? |

I think the wording if the post implies that there is some sort of Exchange specific functionality in Thunderbird, when it is just an IMAP client that can access email on an Exchange server via that protocol. No mention of calendar support. Contact support might be possible via LDAP.
As for the MOOL - TBird comparision, I thought MOOL was an extension to Outlook for integration with mail/calendars/contacts in a MSN backend, not a Hotmail front end to Exchange (what would be the point, when one already has OWA).
