Windows XP x64 Anti-Virus Support Lags
|
Here's a chicken-and-egg scenario for you. Since Microsoft made it clear it plans to field its own Windows anti-virus products, at least two of its former AV partners Symantec and McAfee seem to have stopped releasing AV products simultaneously with Windows releases. Is this a protest? Or is Microsoft holding back on providing these partners/competitors with the information they need to ship in a more timely fashion? One thing's for sure: Neither Symantec nor McAfee is currently supporting Microsoft's new 64-bit Windows desktop release. Meanwhile, Alwil Software and Computer Associates have released AV products that are compatible with the Windows XP Professional x64 product that Microsoft began shipping last Monday. |
