Got IIS 7.0?
|
Apple talks of viewing the real Internet on the iPhone. But where will all those Web sites come from? |
According to a Netcraft report, a bunch will come from servers running Windows 2008 and IIS (Internet Information Services) 7.0. Two months after Microsoft released Windows Server 2008 Beta 3, the software is already used by 2,600 Internet sites, according to Netcraft.
Sure, 2,600 sites is a paltry number compared to the 122,000,635 sites reported by Netcraft in June. But considering the fact that Windows Server 2008 and IIS 7.0 haven't even reached the release candidate stage, it's a pretty good number.
Microsoft released a new Windows Server 2008 CTP (Community Technology Preview) yesterday. Clearly its software development is continuing at a brisk pace. I'm still concerned about whether Microsoft will make Windows Server 2008 widely available this year. If I were a gamblerand I'm notmy money would be against a prompt delivery. Microsoft might release it to manufacturing this year, though. If Microsoft launches in 2007 I'm thinking it will be a November launch event. If not, I'm guessing it will launch in February 2008.
And, yes, I confess that I shamelessly opened with the iPhone. Why not? Everyone else is talking about that damn phone.

Joe,
Your beginning to sound more and more like Mary Jo "names-and-dates, names-and-dates" Foley every day. That was not meant as a compliment.
