Problems Plague Windows Live Spaces

Microsoft's August 1 launch of its Windows Live Spaces blogging/social-networking platform has not been a smooth one.

Customers of Microsoft's successor to MSN Spaces are reporting a variety of performance, publishing, rendering and browser-compatibility issues since Microsoft rolled out the final version of Windows Live Spaces on August 1.

Windows Live Spaces Program Manager Greg Phipps acknowledged on the Space Craft Live Spaces blog that the Spaces team "disappointed a bunch of you with the issues we had in our rollout last night."

Phipps noted that in the first 12 hours that the new platform went live, poor Spaces performance was the order of the day.

"We had a bunch of people working hard and late last night to address these issues that did not show up in any of our test environments," Phipps blogged on August 2. "We planned long and hard for this release and unfortunately it was one of those gotchas that only showed up once we were in production."

Microsoft officials did not respond to additional questions about problems with the Spaces platform by the time this article was published.

Performance wasn't the only gripe Windows Live Spaces users aired. Users flooded the Space Craft Live Spaces blog with reports of stats pages not working, legacy emoticons not rendering correctly, e-mail publishing problems and Firefox browser compatibility issues.

Microsoft has been beta testing Windows Live Spaces for months. New to the latest release is support for gadgets, search and tagging and a new Friends Explorer. Microsoft is integrating more and more of its Windows Live services with each other, as it releases the final versions of each of its burgeoning family of Live services.

More than 120 million unique Microsoft Spaces users, per month access the Microsoft service, according to company officials.

John :

I have had MSN messenger(now Live Messenger v 8 build 8.008.12)for some time. I recently downloaded Live Spaces and started a blog. For the last two weeks, when I try to log in I get a page which says, "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I have done all of the basic stuff to check it. Any comments other experiences?

If I use windows live then the information about my variouse email accounts can be see by others in the office or my house when they are logging into the computer i.e. my name appears with a message saying frank has 80 emails, anyone can then hold the mouse over that message and a list of my email address appears. I reguard this as personnel information. Can you help me please, how do I stop that information from showing.
