A Month of Gates #7

News Brief. Uh-oh. It's the exit interview.

Microsoft kicked off its own Bill Gates tribute with video vignettes and a half-hour Channel 9 interview.

Another 15-minute video appears on Microsoft's press Web site. Siverlight is required to view the clip. Others can be found at this press-ready tribute site. Today, Bill started his last week at Microsoft as a full-time employee.

Press-Ready Exit Interview

I won't say much about either clip; rather, let them speak for themselves. But I will gripe about them. The Channel 9 interview is done in a news media style, but it's not like Microsoft's chairman gets "Meet the Press" kind of questions.

I would love to see him asked tougher questions, particularly about Microsoft's 1998-2002 U.S. antitrust trial, finding CEO Steve Ballmer's successor (even if it's for 10 years out) and the three-year plan for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

There is a ridiculous number of Bill Gates tributes this week. Fortune's "Gates Without Microsoft" asks some of the tougher questions about what's next.

Newsweek has a humorous first photo re-op.

chips :

I see you folks at eweek are getting into bed with Micro$oft these days, installing Silverlight. Not that I cared to watch the Bill Gates fawning video anyway, waste of bandwidth.

Sadly, Microsoft money does seen to touch everything in its path. Including Microsoft Watch.

I agreed , JOE Wilcox get his paycheck for condenming Microsoft

Philosopher :

Speaking of Bill Gates, who is this guy anyway? It's absolutely horrible how he so completely trashes Windows and Microsoft:

And about Silverlight, since Linux is not yet a viable desktop, I am not able to be subjected to Silverlight on my 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04 LTS desktop with Firefox 3. And Flash sites all work just fine, which suites me well. And so:

Sliverlight, Silverbright,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Wish the wish I wish tonight,
That the world ignores this Silver Blight.
